| Sorry today i got a bit ****off with a old gentleman that did know what he was doing. Traveling along a A road doing less then 50 mph. That is so annoying !!!!! He looked over 80 and could hardly see over the steering wheel, driving a new Bmw. Its great that they can afford nice car but I wish they would retake there driving tests !!! |

| Careful. Tried arguing this before. Apparently they're allowed to drive as slow as they like. ![]() ![]() ![]()

| God, dont get me started on this.... was coming off M25 today onto M3... M25 was 40 limit... M3 was absolutly clear and national limit applied..... sat behind Rover 75 coming off M25. Once off the slip road and onto the M3 i was hoping to just sit in slow lane as i was coming off at the next junction... Rover 75 pulls in middle lane. All of this time its been still doin 40mph. I was in no rush and was expecting it to perhaps shoot off once it was there.... but no i was gathering speed and gaining in the slow and came up behind him.... ended up having to brake to lose speed so i cud pull over in to middle then fast to overtake... as i passed who was behind the wheel... but little old woman who also could hardly see over the wheel... was amazed... reached 70 and soon she was a dot in rear view... but was still in middle lane.... dont reakon she'd ever been on motorway before ![]()

| Briskodian | I'm afraid middle lane hogs are not limited to the old, in fact they tend to stick to the inside lane cos they are too terrified to move out. The worst culprits seem to be the young (teens and twenties) in an oldish (first?) car who seem to have the attitude "I'm doing the limit, I don't want to pull out to overtake lorries, I pay my taxes so I'm entitled to use this lane". Is this something they are taught nowadays when they are learning?? Really irritating - I normally cut back into the driving (i.e. inside) lane ASAP in front of them, but it makes no difference - you can't educate pork. |

| Of course there is the opposite to the middle lane hog ... the numpty that insists on being in the left lane all the time. Had a 2.5l BMW driver behind on the M8 me the other day closing slowly, doing no more than 5 mph more than me (I was doing an indicated 80 so in real terms about 74). She would come out to go past a lorry/car doing about 60 in the inside lane and then pull in between it an the lorry/car which was about a car and a half length infront procede to brake to match the speed of the lane, and then repeat the process. ![]() |

| You should have to sit a refresher test once every 15 or 20 years. Even with all the changes nowadays, like signs and lane markings etc. I'm not surprised some of the people who passed their test 50+ years ago aren't sure of what to do. I only passed mine 12 years ago, and i'm sure the Highway code has changed considerably since then. How do we know about all these new signs etc if they don't teach us?? JD

| I look forward to my old age so I can wait until bang on 12pm to queue up in the post office smelling of six week old stale pi55 ,start an arguement with the counter assistant over the failure of the state pension to follow the increase in the cost of living, forcing me to have to wear six jumpers in winter and urinate in my hot water bottle to keep warm, then stop at every other person in the queue to tell them my life story. Then I will meander in my car over the dual carriageway at 25mph on my way to ASDA where I can spend the rest of the dinnertime hour running people over in one of those electric chariots, whilst complaining about the price of bread . I will ask anyone who quite obviously doesn't work there 'If there are cutprice damaged pies in the back?' before proceeding to go to the under ten items till. At this point I will run over any small children in my way and then get the chariot jammed in between the express checkouts whilst unloading the Gross domestic produce of a small country out of the basket on the front of the chariot. I will decline all offers of assistance with my packing and take another 20 mins packing my shopping items individually into plastic bags. Once I managed to cause everyone in the express checkout queue to be late back to work I will drop my guts with a ten week-brewed fart and then wander back to my car which I previously parked sideways across the loading bay.. I will then make my way home down the motorway using any lane I feel like and travel down the carriageway, using the correct direction of travel only if I feel like it...

| All driving licences issued by the DVLA expire the day of your 70th birthday. I'm not sure what's involved in extending it - whether it's a refresher / new test or just a good medical. I guess for currently-aged 70-yead-old-plusses, they're still on the old A3 sized licence which doesn't have the expiry date on them ![]()

| Briskodian | FAO JRHartley: LOL - I'm just intrigued though - i.e. of out of all that little lot, what was it that caused you to edit? No mention of your going back to the chemist counter to double your prescription for Valium. Maybe that is a story for another day... ![]() Generally speaking, I would say that motorway driving can be more dangerous, unless on a Sunday when anyone in their right mind will be paying especial attention. Town driving dipsticks (and mobile users) are definitely not usually oldies IMO - let's face it, most oldies don't either dare go out (or don't need to) till Sunday. IOW I'm not sure that pots calling kettles black carries a lot of weight. Why not have an Oldies Forum? ![]() Mo |

| If its of any consilation I test older people twice a week for there fitness to drive and then are often refered by the dvla. Remember if you have a concern over someones driving report them to dvla if you know them. Belive me if they drive at slow speed on there assessment drive for no pratical reason I will call it as slow processing down to age and yep its bye bye license.......

This is because of accident or reaching age 70? IOW how or why does referral by the DVLA come about?Ta Mo | |

| We are constantly dodging oap's down here at the costa geriatrica, its something of a requirement to drive anywhere in this town that you identify the driver of any vehicle so you can prepare for the unexpected! Normally the favourite trick of the OAP's is to have an automatic car and somehow put it in drive with there foot welded to the floor on the accelerator rather than the brake! We lost 2 cars to this before we moved (used to live opposite a church hall where they went for their tea dances) They often end up ploughing peoples gardens and demolishing walls or driving into swimming pools (no really) or occasionaly driving into peoples houses! On the other hand they can be dangerous as passengers as well - one of our drivers (cabbie) reversed onto a customers driveway so he could get in the car without walking to far, he went round and opened the door for him, got him in the car, shut the door and while walking back round the car the old giffer let the handbrake off! steeply sloped driveway, hello mrs jones, nice walpaper you've got! - yep car rolled across road into living room of house opposite!! Of course it's never their fault though, cos they fought in the war and everything! ![]() |

| Worthing is the home of the OAP driver, drives you nuts after a few years! They should all be made to retake their tests at 65-70 IMO ![]()

| IIRC at 70 , you only need to get a doctors certificate to say you are fit to drive & hey presto , extended licencefor a year ( i think)

| Thats a bloody joke, how can a GP know if someone is fit to drive a bloody car! the only way to prove that is out on the roads with an instructor/examiner!

| How many oldies get someone else to fill in the forms because they can't see the tick boxes? I've nearly been killed on a few occasions due to old drivers. In hindsight I should have reported them to the DVLA/Police as they were obviously unfit to drive a tonne+ of metal on our roads.
