| Personal Statements....... So i spent a day with an company in Leeds a few weeks ago, "reviewing and assessing" their software product etc. Submitted my report to the MD. Received an e-mail on saturday asking if there was any involvement for me or my current employer in it. Seemed a bit open ended to me, so i mentioned the level of influence i don't have in my current role to push things, and then asked if there might be an opportunity for me personally in the company. That was sent yesterday. This morning, the MD mails me to ask for my CV..... now, i don't want to jump to any conclusions about what's happening here, but it was suggested that along with my CV, i attach a Personal Statement in support, highlighting key strengthes in relation to what the company does, illustrating where I would fit in the bigger picture. given that I don't know that there is a job in it, or what job i'd be doing exactly (excluding sales) does it sounds like a good idea? And, more to the point, it's been five years since i did one of them, so any hints how to do a "supporting statement" that is speculative, rather than addressing a definite job description, as I'm a bit lost. ![]() |

| Sounds interesting!! Not often that you get head hunted without even knowing it!! For the personal statement just bollox on about your great team playing ability and self motivation and desire to succeed. Seems to work for me...

| Sounds like a real opportunity to me - the MD wouldn't ask for your CV for nothing. I say really sell yourself, and you'll come out smiling Just my tuppence worth.

Hate doing this sort of thing. I'm not into rampant self-promotion. Makes me feel uncomfortable. Oh well, worth a try.... Interesting? yes......nerve-racking though if it does develop. Uncertainty etc. Must stop running ahead. Nothing in it yet. Merely professional courtesy. stay calm. ![]()

| Briskodian | Just a couple of questions if I may, as to whether you were assessing their software as part of work, or as a private exercise, and if the latter, how did it come about (i.e. were you recommended)? Mo |

How did it come about....confusing really. Contacts in main company mentioned it, met with the MD, expressed interest in seeing what they did....went from there. Who knows where it's going to go. just so open-ended.....keep on starting again...lol

| Briskodian | We have experts on here and I'm not so can only offer my thoughts. Can you start with a list: Item 1, The company is newly formed and trying to break into a market place dynamically seeking customers with systems that can be written (bought) and enhanced to provide instant responses in a fast moving marketplace. Or, The company has a well established customer base and is seeking to maintain and probably enhance their systems to retain their market share. So you can do / have experience of... Item 2, The company's business is .... Your experience of this specific business, or of the genre (e.g. marketing, leasing, building / engineering / architecture whatever - something that relates you to their business environment? Item 3, Knowledge of how they work? Do you have any? - e.g. Do as you're told, or We all work as a team. (How you'd fit in.) Item 4, Who does everyone report to? Is th MD "the man" or is it a branch with head office or company with shareholders to satisfy? Hence two things, i.e. deadlines, and level of input appreciated as opposed to "get the job done". If you're really working blind and can't get more info, I guess you need to cover all bases in your statement with as few words as possible to whet their appetite and leave some things to expand on at the interview. If you can get further info on the company, it would be easier to tailor your skills to their perceived requirements. HTH Mo |
