Poll #2 - Who would win a general election?

Further to this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/roads...ou-vote/89992/ Who do you think would actually win a general election if there was one in the next couple of months?

This is not a poll to see who you'd vote for (the other thread is for that). It is gauging opinion on who you think would win.

I'm not stupid, so there are only two options

What do you believe that the conservatives would do differently?

Well I think a change would be good, just as it would mean slightly less arrogance from the leaders thinking they can do what they like.

They would Butt *uck us just the same......but from a slightly different angle.

The plain truth about Political parties is , they are all filled with people who once they have gained a MP Badge of office , forget what they were originally elected to do, and go off into a world of hidden agenda's, spin , and "I am alright Jack mode".

Pity we cannot get a bunch of people together ....who really do care about the views of other "countrymen and women", and try to actually do something positive to help real people , who have real concerns, instead of talking in riddles, and courting publicity on the back of a torrent of *ull**** and lies.

Perhaps we should form the "BRISKODA PARTY" ....... Oh *hit....I've just fell off me soap box again............

Re: Poll #2 - Who would win a general election?

I've had it with labour... I hope the conservatives pull it off but seeing as how the majority of Scotland vote labour, even if we won every seat in England they'd still have a majority

In the last election if the results had just been counted from England then the Conseratives would have won... Scotland is what keeps labour in power.

Wouldn't recommend the Brisky Party... that old saying; power corrupts is very true... every politician started out with the best intentions but when you dangle the carrot in front of the donkey... he's going to want to bite it no matter the cost

Personally I think I'll vote for conservative just to damage the PM's frail temprament

Hopefully sort out immigration putting controls on it and deporting those who shouldnt be here
Sort out our justice system - current justice system is farce no deterrent to criminals
Cut red tape legislation in business/manufacturing allowing the UK a chance to compete at on an international level.
Put reigns on the current trend of construction work that is continuing to destroy the historical parts of our country

I've just voted Conservative because I think peeps will vote for change.

It'll be interesting to see what voter turn-out numbers are after the election.

Re: Poll #2 - Who would win a general election?

I'd like to hope for a hung Parliament (you know, the one that means no overall majority, not the one that means choking all the MPs to death by their own weight).

Re: Poll #2 - Who would win a general election?

I reckon the problem is that MPs are too highly paid.

In the old days you did it because either:
a) You thought you'd be really good at it
b) You thought it needed doing properly
c) You were a power-mad megalomaniac

Nowadays it's a very lucrative career.

Wouldn't be real change though... both parties fight over the same ground with slightly different approaches to the same style of policy.

The days of an election being about a choice of different models of political/economic ideology are long gone...............

Quite so. So much of everything is "landlocked" now, esp with EU regs. Arguments seem to revolve around shaving a bit £ here and adding a tiny bit £ there. What I personally don't like is the number of laws arriving on our statute books unnoticed. Regrettably all parties seem to want to introduce new laws...

BTW, what happened to simplifying taxation? Any more hidden taxes and taxes on taxes and I really will need to go out and buy a new battery for my calculator.

Agree Mo, but this Stealth Tax idea (drop income tax to 20p yet scrap the 10p rate for example) is nothing new - remember the Conservative Govt of the 80's were very good at this. Cut income tax, yet raise VAT to 17.5%........ such policy is not just a New Labour thing ...

True, but what Labour has done is to hold its hands up clean and say "Hey, We didn't introduce VAT tax at 17.5%". What they have done is to keep it though. (Not sure about EU regs on VAT standardisation - think we have an opt out?) Is there anything that isn't taxed now? I understand how progressive taxation is meant to work (unless you have a good accountant at the top end of course). Is there now anything which isn't taxed?

Likewise, I doubt a new Conservative government would scrap taxes already in place, preferring to spin new reductions for votes. I'm not a natural Conservative LOL, but what's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Mo

I'll be voting Lib Dem as usual.

Can't trust the Tories and Labour take the middle class and give it to the poor. Instead of taking it from the super rich.
