| Promotion at last, so why aren't I bouncing off the walls? Had an interview today and got one of the jobs on my own ward that means official promotion. Because of the NHS completely stuffing up Agenda for Change it has been a long time coming when you compare it to the old grading system. Although I should count myself lucky as some Trusts are not even recognising career progression under the new banding system for ward based nurses. So I have been spending the last near on three years doing the job on a day to day basis without recognition in an official capacity. My day came today when managers finally were able to get funding for this particular post and I was successful at interview. Although it's an 'acting up' post to cover a colleagues secondment a few days a week as I was honest and told them I dont want to up my hours to full time as it is good for stress management and my work/life balance. I have been swatting up no end for today and have put so much time and effort in over the last couple of years to get to this point, that I am quite stunned at how numb I feel about the whole thing right now. I feel deflated I suppose and I just wish I could feel how I expected myself to feel. ![]() End of whinge ![]()

| Re: Promotion at last, so why aren't I bouncing off the walls? It's not new, I have been working in this senior role for a nearly three years. My duties will not be any different it's just now they are being officially recognised and I will be paid more.

| Re: Promotion at last, so why aren't I bouncing off the walls? Congratumalations Pix. You should know by now that Public Servants get shafted big style. If the local authority can get the same production out of fewer staff on less wages then they're happy. Meanwhile the senior management award themselves hundreds of thousands of pounds in wages and bonuses every year. Last edited by pittVRS; 20-06-2008 at 23:50. |

| Re: Promotion at last, so why aren't I bouncing off the walls? Ahh, the NHS pay scale. Makes no sense what so ever. My mate is going through a similar thing (for CPT) and we were just talking about it this afternoon. Had the old system been in place, he would have got another 4k a year!! |

| Re: Promotion at last, so why aren't I bouncing off the walls? Maybe if you hadn't been doing the job already, you would be a bit more "excited" about it. But really, the only difference now is your pay packet...that should cheer you up at the end of the month. And congratulations on the new post too. ![]() |

| Briskodian | Re: Promotion at last, so why aren't I bouncing off the walls? Mornin' Pixi. It's almost unheard of for an employee to be recognised in monetary terms (in any business) for a job being done already which should have attracted an upgrade from the outset. Well done! You've beaten the system You should feel really happy - you must be one in a million. Of course, being a star and being recognised as a star (monetarily) are two different things, but you've succeeded with both ![]() PS I won't tell anyone if you don't that you promised to fling a doughnut to me if I wrote the above. *Stands in garden looking skywards* ![]() Mo |
