Default Advice Needed Please

Been offered a Scout (1.9tdi) as a company car; I have an Octavia at the moment but would like a change. I have had a test drive; but no long journeys. So can I ask you gentlemen how comfortable is the Scout on a longer run? Does it provide enough lumber support? Also what are the noise levels like at about 80mph?

Many thanks

We have only had a demo for 2 days. Brilliant, we did clock up about 300 miles.

Kev is 6ft 4 and although he didn't do all the driving he found it quite comfy. As we are new to the Skoda life have no idea about other seats but the roomsters go up and down, backwards & forwards and you can adjust the steering wheel vertically and horizontally. Noise levels were fine, but I am driving an old scenic so it can't really be compared.

I have problems with my lower back and I found it to be really supportive, I am 5ft 6 if that is of any help.

If I was offered one as a company car, I'd snatch their hand off!!!

I regulary do journeys of 3 hours + in mine.

The noise aspect is good, it's quiet and quite composed at speed. I couldn't possible tell you what it is like at a constant 80mph as I never go that fast but it's fine at all other speeds.

Lumbar support is something it does lack and the seats although supportive are not fantastic, good for the class but not up there with Saab or Volvo seats. In view of the cars list price they are good kit but a similar spec Octy will set you back an extra £1000ish so it may be unfair to compare.

I would suggest finding a dealer with one on Demo and get a test drive.

Thanks for the posts, I think I need another test drive. My other option is a Golf estate (safe option; but a bit bland compared to the Roomster).

Look at the tax.

The Golf is a nice car but it's list price is over £16k which will hurt you finacially.

The driving experiance is about the same.

No problems on long runs. Excellent headroom, even better in the back. Only minor gripe is the radio casing. It sticks out a little too far & my knee rubs on it. A minor point though!

Wow! You're not related to Peter Crouch are you?

I've had my Scout for 3 months now and so far the only complaint I have is that it's too easy to touch kerbs and damage the alloys. I love the availability of sufficient power to do a quick overtake on the motorway.
I did have problems reversing but my wife bought me a rearview camera for my birthday.

Thanks for the replies, I'm in the process of trying to talk my fleet manager into adding a couple of extras.

In response to the original question, I can confirm that at 80mph, the 1.9Tdi is commendably refined, largely due to the engine not rotating very quickly. On good surfaces, there's little tyre roar, but there's a bit of wind noise around the mirrors.
