Hello to all,


After 3 long months of waiting finaly got my Roomster 2 1.6 with panorama roof as extra. Very, very nice car. We all love it. Panorama is great for passangers. 1.6 engine is also nice. For first 700Km average consuption is 6.4 litres per 100 kM combined driving, excpected much more.

Congratulations - enjoy!

Impressed with the economy (reckon that's around 44 mpg).

Does anyone in Midlands have a 1.6 demo? Just had a 1.9 for Skoda's 48 hour test drive and now convinced we want a Roomster. It takes 4 people plus offspring's cello (a must) - hence use of centre rear seat (earlier thread).

It's the old "enough mileage to merit the diesel?" dilemma but our 2 local dealerships only have 1.9s or 1.4 pet or d'l.

Yay another 1.6 out there.
Getting about 46mpg now from ours. Seen several Roomsters on the road in the last couple of weeks.
Didn't test drive the 1.6 before we ordered it but having tried the 1.4 decided it was the best choice, don't do enough mileage to have a diesel.

You don't need to do loads of miles to buy a diesel; OK they cost a bit more to buy but you get that back on resale.

The main benefit of a modern diesel is the wave of torque (generally 50% more than a comparable petrol engine) that make everyday driving so much easier and more relaxed. My wife's car is a diesel and we only do 3 - 5,000 miles pa in it and she wouldn't drive anything else theses days.

For the roomster IMHO the 1.4 TDI is the better diesel to go for, performance difference to the 1.9 is not huge and it has that great 3 cylinder off-beat burble to give it character (same reason the 1.2 Fabia sounds so sweet).

Thanks for that. Our dealer was suggesting a t-drive in a 1.4 pet (couldn't supply a 1.6) but maybe we ought to try the 1.4 diesel - but like a bit of oomph when pulling away! Clued up on the torque and demonstrated it to frustrated husband as he tried to keep up in our 1.6 "chugaboom" when we were in convoy to return the Roomster

I had a Roomy 1.4 TDI on loan today whilst my Fabia 1.9TDI was in for service thought PAH! 1.4 but was VERY impressed with the pull from the baby TDI. Passed a truck on an uphill section of A road in 3rd gear without any roblems or drama at all, didn't even have to lean forwards in my seat to try and make it go faster or anything!
Love the sound of a triple going for it, brought back memories of my Triumph Trident 900 bike !

I too have a Roomster on loan (for 48 hours) whilst my Octy is being fettled.

Got the 1.9TDI Roomster 2. I must say nice little car. Checked out the rear seat room (I'm 6'3") and bags of space even with the driver's seat set for me. Ride and handling are pretty good although a bit understeery (only got the 15" wheels & I ought to check the tyre pressures). Sorry, being a bit critical as I like a sporty setup.

Cabin is good and the aircraft style windows a bit nifty. Comparing it with my wife's FIAT Doblo, driving position is not as high and cabin is not as spacious, but the panoramic roof would go a way to give a brighter cabin.

Height of the boot floor and loading lip is about 6" higher than Doblo, which would make it more difficult for my dog to jump into but I like the oddment trays at the side of the boot over the wheel arches.

Overall a very 'nifty motor' with a unique style compared to other small hatch/mpv; I like it.

That's very interesting as, until we tried the Roomster, I was coveting a Doblo and had tried the 1.9 and 1.3 diesels in that! Useful comments as it's looking like we'll settle for a 1.9 2.

For a Doblo I feel the 1.3 diesel is underpowered, its quite a big bluff vehicle, the 1.9 gives it a decent turn of speed. Doblo also is a passengerised van with somewhat dated live axle and leaf springs at the rear (ok for a van) but the handling & ride suffers a bit. It does have a better serious load carrying capacity rather than the Roomster's lifestyle capacity.

However, like for like, I reckon that a Doblo is £1,000 - £1,500 cheaper that a Roomster and you are likely to be able to get a bigger discount on one; so at the end of the day - you's pays your money and you's takes your choice.

Oh; I checked the tyre pressures on the Roomster and found them up at 3.2bar/48psi! Should be 2.2bar/32psi. No wonder I was getting understeer as the overinflation would reduce grip. Also the ride was a fair bit jittery. Now sorted and handling better. (Big black mark to my dealer!!).
