| Briskodian | First Impressions I have now had my Roomster for a week and thought I'd share my first impressions. The handling is very good, both around town and at speed; it does handle very well for it's size. The 1.4TDi engine is very good; it can be a bit vocal when accelerating hard, but the engine noise is not intrusive. I have no problems with the amount of power the 80bhp engine has, even though it is slightly less than that on my previous TDi. However, compared to the 1.9 it has a flat spot low down in the rev range which makes it slightly less relaxing to drive at times, such as when pulling away at traffic lights. If one remembers to drive it a bit more like a petrol engine it's fine. One thing that caught me out was the switch for the heated mirrors. There was a misty morning last week and put on the rear demister which cleared the back screen very quickly , but not the mirrors. I thought there might be a fault but trawled through the manual and found that the switch was with the mirror adjuster knob, which I suppose seems sensible but wasn't obvious to me. The other thing was the boot release button on the keyfob. Initially it didn't seem to work until I realised you need to keep it held down for a second or so before it activates. The Dance radio is very good and although it is mounted a bit low in the dash, it works very well - is very easy to use and has a good sound. The Belkin iPod kit has been less successful in that although it works to an extent, I get interference that changes with the engine speed at times. I haven't had the time to fiddle with the gain setting on the iPod kit and the setting on the radio. The reversing sensors are very very good, and it is useful to have the accompanying display. After having this, I wouldn't not have one again. People have found the styling of the Roomster odd, but they are usually won over once they have sat in the back seats! Overally I have been extremely pleased with the Roomster; the next thing I need to test is getting bicycles in, though I may end up getting a removable towbar fitted. |

| Re: First Impressions I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy your Roomy. I've had mine (1.9Tdi Scout) since March and love it. I wish I had had the reversing sensors though, I agree about the heated mirror switch, it wasn't very obvious. It seems a bit fragile as well but no one has reported any problems on here so hopefully all will be well with it. I also use it to tow a 1000kg caravan which it manages with ease. Enjoy Fred |
