Fitting foglamps to a Roomster

Hi, this is my first posting since I am a new member of this Forum. I recently exchanged my trusted Fabia for an ex-demo Roomster2. The dealer quoted me £700 for fitting ordinary, not cornering, foglamps to it. I found this a bit excessive since the ordinary Skoda foglamp set cost only £140. Has anybody done this in DIY? How difficult the foglamp fitting would be? Thanks. JS

My car: Roomster2 1.9 Tdi, storm blue with the following extras: panoramic sunroof, roof rail, cruise control, rear electric windows, multifunction module on the steering column.

There is a guy selling front foglamp kits for the new fabia and roomster on ebay, i assume these are the same, why not ask him for instructions?

Hi,

Im not familiar with the bumper of the roomster but I assume there is cut outs for the lamps?

If so, have a look behind and see if you can see a plug/loom at each side. Sometimes makers just use a standard loom for all cars in the range. It may just be that if the loom is there, all you need is a lamp kit/brackets and a new switch. I dont know where the roomster has the fog light switch, if its on the stalk or a dial switch but I guess you will need a new one. Possible coding on Vag-Com too and maybe addition of a fuse somewhere?

Ill give you a couple of examples.........

Reno Clio 1993, fog light loom already there, connected up my own fogs to it and bought the genuine switch from a dealer (just a rocker type) and added a fuse, no wiring required.

Same car, only one rear fog light...... wiring, everything was in place for a second one, just needed to pop a blank and insert a bulb.

Transit Connect Van, rear 12v socket........ loom already there, added a fuse to make it live, wired in my own 12v socket.

It's very rare to find the wiring already in place on the Skoda however if you buy a genuine kit they are normally quite comprehensive. An indication of the time taken to install is given on the Skoda accessories website which tells you the fitting time in TU's (Time Units) AFAIK 1 TU = 1 Minute. In this case 320 TU's so around 5.5 hours.

Wow thats a long time, no wonder its £700 It would still be worth trying to get hold of the instructions to see how much work is envolved. As prev. posted might be worth contacting the ebay guy to see if the box is opened and if he is able and happy to email the instructions prior to sale .

The eBay guy is a Skoda main dealer so it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I've bought pair of fog lamps and plastic frames. Power was taken directly from the battery via relais, fuse and button (which located under the steering wheel - not an original headlight switch, cause it's expensive).

I hope the pics will help....

Plastic covers and codes (A pair costs 10 Euro)

I've found original fog lights but you can also buy VW transporter fog lights. They are same..

Skoda original fog lights (Pair price - 35 Euro / HB4 bulbs included) (also same with old Fabia's with facelift)

Couldn't you just pick up an OEM switch from a breakers? Haven't checked part#'s yet so still only an idea. Yet would find it hard to believe that it's any different than the complete VAG line...

Thanks guys for the advice. I would probably go ahead to get the foglamp kit. It seems to me that it contains everything what I need to do the job. The fog lamps , fog lamp grilles, wiring and even the replacement headlamp switch. The original, factory fitted, switch has only settings for the head lamp, parking lamp and for the rear fog lamp. One last thin: Would anybody know how this DIY job affect the warranty on the car (still 29 months left). I hope not. Thanks again. JS

Hi, just to let you know that I think your dealer has over estimated quite a bit. I've just bought a used new shape fabia and am having front fogs fitted; I have been quoted about £300 fully fitted including VAT.
