| Hi folks, I have helped out replying to this set of questions on the Octavia II on many occasion and now it is payback time; please. I need to change my wife's car for an Automatic (long term left ankle problem and she can't handle the clutch pedal) and thus have to switch from our much loved FIAT Doblo that we have owned for 5 years but is only available as a manual. Been thinking about the Roomster for some time although we have shortlisted to look at the Renault Kangoo and Vauxhall Meriva as well. Considering the Roomster, it has to be the 1.6 105bhp 'Tip' variant and after that we are looking at Scout, 3 or 2 trim level. My thoughts on these are the Scout looks really good, particularly the wheels and has increased ride height (that is apparent in photos but I've not seen one in the flesh) to give a higher driving position, which is one of the reasons we like the Doblo. Scout and Roomster 3 are equal on price but we are not fussed, I don't think, about the panoramic roof or cruise control of the '3'. Rear parking sensors are a must have. We could therfore get a '2' and add a few options. So; the questions are; 1. Scout, 3 or 2 plus options? Any preferences 2. Are there any particular options that are a must have and any not worth the money? 3. Can any one confirm or deny for definite whether the Scout has increased ride height over other Roomsters? 4. Finally; Colour! I'm fancying the Polar Blue or new Amazonian Green. Any comments, preferences, or pics? Your help, generously given as true Briskodiasns, will be much appreciated. PS> This is a genuine request and not just some idle chat/wishful thinking. I'm lined up to see my local dealer at the weekend, plus my Renault & Vauxhall dealers. We'd rather keep Doblo for another year or two but needs must!

| We went for the 3 over the scout which is basically a 2 with some different seats and body kitaswell as roof rails and sunset glass (which can be added to a 2or 3 ) Have you seen the seat trim for a level 2? As for height, i belive they are both the same height. Now colour both of your choice's are nice. but try and have a look in the fleash as it make a differance, also with sunset glass it can change the whole appearance. Here are a few bad picks of mine, Level 3 with privecy glass and roofrails. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| To try to answer, with my limited ownership (1 week and counting) So; the questions were; 1. Scout, 3 or 2 plus options? Any preferences I prefer the looks of the scout, whilst it's quirky (and I am guilty of the ugly comments) it does look quite purposeful and seems to have a little extra road presence. The Scout get's the roof rails and rear privacy glass as standard, as well as the 3 spoke wheel which I am almost positive is an octy vRS wheel minus the badge and for peice of mind (for those who need it) you get ESP. 2. Are there any particular options that are a must have and any not worth the money? I think cornering foglights are a gimmick, but the panoramic roof is fantastic, it's a pity it does not open slightly, but the wife and kids love it. If you specced a scout, I would say you need to add the rear electric windows and the centre armrest as they are not standard. 3. Can any one confirm or deny for definite whether the Scout has increased ride height over other Roomsters? See my reply in the other thread mate, I strongly suspect there is no difference in ride height and the Scout is more of a styling exercise ..... albeit one that works 4. Finally; Colour! I'm fancying the Polar Blue or new Amazonian Green. Any comments, preferences, or pics? Pics of my black scout at the weekend, I never considered black at first, because I thought the cladding would be "lost", as it happens, it contrasts beautifully and with the 17" alloy's (optional extra) the car really looks quite sporty. One thing to note about the black is that you do lose a little of the shape of the front doors, it's hard to describe, but they seem to blend in and the difference in window height seems less pronounced. Your help, generously given as true Briskodiasns, will be much appreciated. |

| I played the 3 off against the Scout interms of what I thought was important. To me ESP was far more important than the glass roof (I will one day be handing it down to the wife and if you have seen her drive it's a good thing) as was the colour of the seats. If you know where to go you can probably get a really good deal on new one When I specced the Scout up it came to less than the 3 with the options I wanted so with that and the fact it looked better than the 3 IMHO (And I like the looks of the Roomster, it's distinctive and draws a crowd especially as there are about 10 on the roads!). I bopught mine in bog standard silver for two reasons, 1. I can't be bothered washing it every 2 days then waxing it etc every weekend as I felt obliged to do with my black VRS and 2. When I traded the 57k VRS in the bonnet looked like the Milkyway with all the chips, silver doesn't show these up as bad it looks like this In terms of options, I have the rear parking sensors but TBH I find them poor, it's not that the don't work but they seem to be over cautious and the visablity and shape of the car is so good reversing is a doddle. Maxi Dot is cool as is the armrest. I went for cruise as well and although it's not listed as an option for the scout they will fit it. |

I take your point about ESP; there is strong argument that this should be standard on any car and we don't particularly want/need the panoramic roof. ESP would also be more valuable as I'm looking for the automatic 'Tip' gearbox. Maxidot is to me a must have; I have it on my Octy and wouldn't be without it. Rear parking; I'd rather they be over cautious than not, so we'll probably get them. I like the light colour with the contrasting bumpers and sunset rear windows, but not sure I want to repeat Silver as our Doblo is silver; that's why I was thinking of the Polar Blue. Any comment/opinion on the ride height issue? Your first pic seems to show that it is higher than a 1, 2 or 3.

| i think the roo scout looks higher as allot of pics have it on the 17's wheels. the tyres on the 17's are a micro 40 profile, meaning the arches look empty (ever seen a chav saxo thats put bigger rims on without lowering it, leaving the car looking a little like a off road car?) the hight is actually the same, bar a few mil maybe due to the roof bars and different wheel/tyre combos. i had a roo scout for 6 months as a demo, it had the 17 inch wheels and i must say the ride was a little choppy. i prefer the 16 inch wheels for ride, but it did corner very very well for such a tall car ![]() i would go for a scout if i were choosing one myself, it looks totally different to the rest of the range and most other cars too! i always had people asking after it at fuel stations and even the local boot fair when i went! plus the added extras of the sunset glass, and leather steering wheel make it a nice place to be, and the seats are good too. i also had climate which was good and i miss it now ive gone to a octy ambiente. but i would say theres no option bar parking sensors on the scout that i would go for. polar blue scout would look great imoa!

| I bought a 2 because that's what the dealer had in stock as a pre-reg bargain at the time. But, interestingly, AutoExpress reckons that the 2 offers better value for money over the 3 and Scout. To me, the issue is whether you want (a) the panoramic roof, or (b) the Scout body kit or (c) neither. Most other things can be added to the 2's spec. The climatronic is superb, and IMHO worth it over straight air-con. While I didn't actively choose the 2, I'm glad I bought it, being able to find other ways to spend the extra £1K. Unless you _must_ buy brand new with your own personal options list, I'd recommend looking round for a pre-reg or ex-demo, and potentially save quite a lot of money. Stuart |

Having on Thurs eliminated the Kangoo from our search on the basis that it was an 'old' car, neither of my two local Renault dealers had one I could look at let alone test drive and as dealers/salesmen I didn't get the right vibes, we went on down to our Vauxhall dealer Saturday pm to check out the Meriva. Looking this over my wife quickly decided she wasn't sure about the driving position and the overall style/feel of the car. So, off we went to our local Skoda dealer. On arrival the promised Roomster 2 1.6 Tip in Cappuccino was ready to be tested. Twenty or so minutes later we were convinced and quite happy that it is a Roomster that is to be bought. Question now is which one. After some discussion and thought we finished up with the following criteria for our perfect Roomster; 1. Delivery is required three weeks max, which rules out a Factory order, will therefore have to be either from Skoda UK stock or a dealer demonstrator/pre-reg. 2. Colour to be Polar Blue. 3. Spec to be Scout with rear parking sensors, primarily to get the better upholstery of the seats, with the 'Scout' style/equipment being a bonus. 4. If a Scout as above is not available we concluded that a Roomster 2 with parking sensors would be a workable and no doubt cheaper alternative, as it has all the equipment we feel is essential in a car. As luck would have it our dealer has just the car on an '08' plate that they were about to put up for sale; so they are going to see if they can find a Scout for us, give us a price on the 2 they have, and we will work from there.

| Well; got myself (and the wife) sorted with a new car! After a fair bit of research on availabilities and bit of networking with Briskodians, I finished up with a choice of three cars (all 1.6 Tiptronic); 1. Roomster 2 in Polar Blue with options/accessories that I needed, '08 ex-demonstrator with 3,500 miles 2. Roomster 2 in Polar Blue with options/accessories but NEW, and 3. Roomster Scout in Ocean Blue with factory central armrest and rear parking sensors (that I needed) and cruise control (as a bonus) NEW at a price that I could not ignore. I have therefore put a deposit down and will, in about three weeks, be the proud owner of an Ocean Blue Scout. Job done. All I need now is to sell my Doblo! See here;- http://briskoda.net/forums/cars-sale...s-only/115418/ (shameless plug)
