| Briskodian | Roomster replacement tyres. Is anybody else in the position of needing new tyres for their Roomster yet ? The Bridgestone Turanza's on my wifes car are down to 2.5mm and I'm on the lookout for replacements. The current tyres have been very good for grip and handling but are not listed as being available in the UK. So I was wondering what other folk are buying as replacements ? |

Mine are the same size as for my Fabia so I will be fitting my summer wheels (Team Dynamics Monza's) with F1's on them which will last a few months. Then Ill be going for either Toyo t1r's, Unyroyal Rainsport 2's or the New Toyo Proxies 4, Whatever is the best deal at the time. I also might try fitting 215/40/16's as these seem a lot cheaper. | |

| Briskodian | Re: Roomster replacement tyres. Crazy old world isn't it ? when bigger tyres are sometimes cheaper than the little 'uns. I'm not splashing out on new rims however so she'll be getting another set of 15's. Will check out the available Bridgestones and hope that they are similar enough to the existing spare. If I could have got the same tyres again then the spare would have been put into use, as it is it'll remain in the boot. |

| Re: Roomster replacement tyres. Approaching 20K in our Roomie, so I'll soon be looking for a second set of front tyres. I was disappointed to only get 10K out of the original Bridgestones, and as the Furby was sitting in the garage on newish tyres I swapped the wheels over and have run the Roomie on Kumho's. They seem to be lasting better than the Bridgestones and offer just as good grip and noise levels. As the Furby will be back on the road later in the year, wheels will have to be swapped back. Tyre decisions will have to be made soon - I think a trawl around the web will be done soon to find the best deals. |

| Tire code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Best to look for the highest # on treadwear, while maintaining A's or better for traction & temperature grades... If I remember this properly as unfortunately Wikipedia seems to omit this vital info.! I believe that say a tire with a 400 treadwear should last 4x as long as one with a 100 treadwear all other spec's being equal. My original Firestone fuel savers with a 420 treadwear were good for 60k kilometers. While the replacement Hankook optimos with a 360 treadwear seem to be fairing nearly as well now that I have another 32k+ kilometers on them! Also found this site helpful for independent reviews of specific tyres under consideration! TyreTest.com - Tyre reviews - an independent consumer survey |

| Briskodian | Re: Roomster replacement tyres. Thanks Skisbp - lots of stuff to consider there. I thought I understood most of the heiroglyphics on the tyre sidewall but I now realise that I knew nothing at all about wear rates. I'll look for a good compromise between longevity and "feel" My old Dad used to sing the praises of Michelins that he could get star-ship mileages out of but the downside is that they were as compliant as mahogany ! Don't suppose that mattered too much back in the days of Cortina's and Capri's though. |

| Personally I liked the last Michelin's I had except that I found they went bald in 10k miles!!! Almost rejected my Ibiza when it arrived because of the Firestone's on it (just after Firestone found themselves in the middle of that big hullabaloo with the Ford Explorer...) +/-300 pounds discount latter & I figured that'd buy a new set! Wanted the Dunlap's yet have found they don't offer the same value for the money that the Korean products (Kuhmo/Hankook) can... Need to stay away from the American tyres because of price typically, need to avoid any tyre manufactured in China! When I was brokering the sale of spare airline parts even our Chinese clients wouldn't touch Made in China goods{nuf said}!!! |

| Re: Roomster replacement tyres. If you want the Bridgestones, try Tyres online @ Blackcircles.com: discount tyre dealers for car tyres, 4x4 and motorbike tyres, they do the Bridgestones for £93 each fitted. I was checking on the tyres cost after I took delivery of my car last week. Jo

| Re: Roomster replacement tyres. Second vote for the Toyo's ... when the OE Dunlop's disappear, it'll be one of the two Toyo designs that will go on. Great tyres, ended up with various types on last 4 cars (4x4 stayed on BFG), mostly Proxes of some description and can't fault them for grip, longevity (even tho they seem to have a rep for short-living) and all-round behaviour. Good value too ... Just my 2c worth!

| Re: Roomster replacement tyres. Just replaced the front Bridgestone Turanzas on mine. Back ones have a few thousand miles left so I wanted to match what was there. Skoda quoted £87 each without the VAT, that was also about the best price offered by the high street tyre fitting places. Found them via a small firm in Gateshead called Barry's Tyres for £58 each. £136 pound for the two fitted. I noticed the new ones have a V speed rating (149 mph), the old ones were H (130 mph). I'm happy with the grip on the Bridgestones, the ride quality & noise etc. But I still can't get away from 21 000 miles being low for needing replacement!
