I have heard the opposite from mechanics - they say customers cars are, especially ones with 215bhp tons of torque

27 Brand new (6 miles on the clock) 2.0 Passats...

"move them to the carpark" said the manager at europcar

"no problemo" said WoodieGuthrie

45 mins later, all 27 cars in car park, making "tink tink tink" noises as the lumps cool.

highest reading on the onboard computer was 6.4mpg

the runner car (a Fabia Tdi Estate) used an 8th of a tank in 24 miles...

Well my APS van gets treated reasonably well, it is a remapped turbodiesel, it's a van, and it shifts well enough. Usual treatment so warm it up before caning it, let clutch come up properly and then accelerate.

Seems to work well and sufficient for me at the moment.

I just wish the heating worked

Just another opinion!

Actually we have both Octavia vRS and Roomster 1.6 Auto, and i enjoy driving both of those!

Roomster is very comfy and easy to drive, of'cause it does not pull like my 248hp RS but for normal driving it is perfect and much softer and relaxing to drive then RS!

Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

It must be policy to take a vRS off a customer and give them a Roomster. Last Friday I had a Roomster2 for a day, now I've got a Roomster1 until Tuesday.

Not exactly compensation while the dealer fixes my heating, aircon and rear wash/wipe. They have given me a good price on retro-fit cruise though seeing as the dash and wiring is all out at the moment!

Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

I got a roomster as a courtesy while my felicia was being serviced, so it seemed quite nippy (1.4 TDI). . Incidentally, do you check everything when you get a courtesy or hire car or, like me, do you just drive off and then realise you don't know how to do something fundamental like adjust mirrors/steering wheel/ switch lights on?

Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

I remember hiring an Astra in Majorca a few years back. Whilst hooning home one evening I got lost and had to do an "emergency" hand brake turn or 4 in a farmer's driveway.

The following morning I noticed that the side skirts were hanging beneath the car, obviously due to the apalling build quality of the Opel lemon and absolutely nothing to do with my advanced driving skills whatsoever!

A short trip to the supermercado secured a fairy washing up bottle which I filled with muddy water and after punching the bent and torn bodywork back into place, covered it in Colin McRae style mud splats.

It was returned to the hire place no questions asked despite there not having been any rain for the last 3 months. I'm sure I saw an Avis rep chasing our plane down the runway waving a fault sheet in the air.....

Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

I got the details through for a 2 day test drive in a Roomster today...

I can't ever see me buying one as they're too van-like for my tastes.. but it can't hurt to try it out for acouple of days

Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

You can't really compare the octy vrs to a roomster.

In the past 3 and a half years I've had 2 Octy vrs and fabia vrs and now a roomster 3.

Roomster is by far the most comfortable to drive plus I find it hell of a lot more comfortable and I don't find myself getting drawn into hammering around like I used to in the vrs - the 'You ain't overtaking me mate' mentallity has completely gone.

Talking Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

I started my own cleaning company in september and on our first job we needed a van but wangled a brand new mondeo estate ghia x. folded down the seats loaded with three workers inc me a caustic soda tank - nice one scrubbing machine, two ladders, buckets and a load of chemicals. Thrashed it down the m4 to Gloucester spilt caustic crystals on the carpet and gave it back 4 days later very dirty and with 1000 miles extra on the odometer and complained that they didn't clean it properly before I picked it up. Oh and as it was supplied by another parties insurance company i was supoosed to have a focus or something but was cheeky enough to ask for an upgrade.

By the way the fast cars on the road are actually hire cars & sales reps cars I had a ford focus in sales for two years - brand new put 105,000 miles on it, broke two sets of front fogs, and had a new windscreen oh and a stone went through the grill and knackered the air conditioning. At that thought best leave!!!!!!!!!!!!

fogs were broke by stones spitting off lorry tyres whilst i was approaching at about 90 impact speed ouch.

Re: vRS getting fixed got a "vRoomster" courtesy

I hired a Megane Scenic in Tenerife - very similar thing except you can't do handbrake turns in them because they have these stupid automatic handbrakes. Discovered it's top speed was higher than quoted in the manual though....:-)
