What about the back seat?!

We've test driven a 2 and a 3 with 1.9 Tdi engine and taken turns to ride in the back. That low middle rear seat without a head restraint is a worry. Dealers say centre head restraints aren't wanted (people always remove them) but we've seen a 3 being pdi'd that had one and it slid down well out of the way. Feel that for the extra £5 it costs Skoda at the factory they're being a bit cheapskate and putting a fifth passenger at risk.

Discuss...!

Re: What about the back seat?!

My poorest Roomi 1 has not

It could reduce the rear view IMO!

Re: What about the back seat?!

If you really want one it's available as an extra but I'm sure you could get one thrown in.

Not really sure I'd want to spend too much time sat in the middle seat though as it is a bit snug.

Re: What about the back seat?!

I have one and it drops out of sight pretty much, I dont even notice it and I think it's aesthetically pleasing.

Re: What about the back seat?!

Rear middle seat is really just for kids. For the amount of time I'd have an adult in there it would be a waste. In my last car I took all 3 rear head rests out as they stopped the seats folding and blocked the rear view. Not such a problem in the Roomy as the seat folds much better than in the Peugeot.

Yes, the middle seat sucks!

Angry Re: What about the back seat?!

Couldn't agree more. It seems very odd to me that an essential piece of safety equipment is a factory-fitted optional extra. Real cheapskate approach. Interesting that all the pics of the interior whether in the brochure or the manual or on the internet always show the rear centre seat with a head restraint so you get the impression it's standard. I would say this is misleading. I can't change mine short of buying a whole new seat so I will have to accept that the car is a 4 seater with a fold-down picnic table.

Re: What about the back seat?!

There is hope for your back seat, Jaybee! As on an earlier thread, it transpires that the holes for a head restraint are there in the seat.
You can order a head restraint assembly from the parts dept that consists of 3 parts: frame, pad, etc. About £25?? Then you need the bits for the top of the seat (come to my rescue here, someone!).
Possible tip is to buy the assembly for an outer rear seat head restraint - as this is longer and ensures an adult has a a head restraint at the proper height. It will go down into the seat all the way. (We've tried this with the original car I mentioned at the top of this thread.) This is all what HWMBO has found out so check it out just to be sure!
Our 2 TDi 1.9 has clocked up 1100 miles now in 3 and a bit weeks and we're very pleased. Cello fits down the middle after all so we've managed that and 4 adults very nicely so far.

Re: What about the back seat?!

just one thing... how is it an essential piece of safety equipment?

if anything its UNSAFE as it restricts the view out of the back

Re: What about the back seat?!

You don't really need that answering, do you?

Head restraints are there to stop your neck snapping over the back of the seat if you get shunted from behind. They're not there for you to rest your head on so you're all comfy and fall asleep at the wheel

Re: What about the back seat?!

I dont have any problem with my mk2 octavia with 3 restraints at the back. Visibility is excellent, and cant fault it. I quiet liked the ones in my old C Class merc that would fold down at the press of a button on the dash.
