| Briskodian | 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start Hi folks , we have a bit of a project here at the moment. We received an old skoda from a friend,it belonged to his father and was regularly serviced at the main agent and kept in tip top condition until he died 7 years ago , it was driven into their garage and stayed there untouched ever since. When we got it , we bought a new battery, got rid of the old stale petrol , and during this found the fuel pump was knackered and we bought a new one. so far what we have discovered is that the car will turn over but not even attempt at firing. I am no mechanic but we took out the plugs with a guy who knows about them and he said they were dry, we have checked the fuel line up as far as the injection gizmo under the air filter and up to there it is pumping fuel like crazy. we did the usual take out a spark plug and stick it near the head trick and we have a spark. Fuel + spark I thought meant go , but not for this favorit. with the plugs being bone dry does this suggest injection system blocked ,and if so is it a bugger to check/fix. any other suggestions would be great. Its an old L- reg 1994 Skoda Favorit with an inection fuel system. not having much fun here , my old Rover P6 was much easier to get going , new battery , new petrol and it was off after 10yrs standing lol. carbs seem so much easier |

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start Silly question but do you have the right key as I think there is one key that will open the doors and one with an immobiliser fitted that will start the car

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start The immobiliser on the late Favorits wouldn't engage the starter if it wasn't de-immobilised.

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start I know very little compared to these guys here, but only other thign I can think of besides the fuel supply, is the distributor rotor arm, which should be cheap to replace. The bosch monomotronic injection system does have some sort of diagnostic connector which I believe provides fault codes, but I know nothing more than that. JHM Buttco has a fuel injection pump priced at £190 in their june 2006 catalogue. As for how easy it is to replace not a clue, sorry. But the immobiliser definitely does not let the starter motor turn at all when engaged, which I know from experience trying to start when immobilised. |

| Briskodian | Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start hi folks got it running after an afternoon everything was fine with the electrics etc, I took out the injector itself tested the ohms resistance whic was below 3 which is normal. checked the little plastic cap that covers the injector which has two small electric connections inside, they were both testing at 12v on turning the engine over. eventually I just got two wires and zapped the little injector with 12v off the battery direct, it spat its dummy out and spat out some fuel. stuck it all back together and the skoda is now running. smells of eggs though , could be the cat moaning of 7 yrs being off road brakes are knackered too as expected. other wise its in mint (not at all rotten) condition. |

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start The "rotten eggs" smell suggests to me that you've not got all the old stale petrol out of the tank and lines yet. Old petrol is much more likely to contain sulphur compounds that the cat converts into sulphur oxides, and IIRC sulphurous oxide. |

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start It's a shame you probably wouldn't get much money for it, and I bet it's a *really* nice car, especially at only 29k miles and after 7 years kept in a garage. |

| Briskodian | Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start sorry for the delay in replying folks but the skoda has been left until today as we have had it booked in for an MOT this morning, just really to discover the problems with the car really. Then.... As you may be aware here in the UK (wales especially as usual lol) we have had a lot of rain, well the Skoda has been sitting about for the last couple of weeks untouched in all this rain, well. My brother called me this morning stating he had tried to start the skoda this morning and now all the lights on the dash were not working and there was a funny smell or burning.. oh boy. As the story grew I quickly discovered that the skoda refused to start this morning after sitting around in the rain so a jump start was done from my dads Astra, all well and good but..... He isnt the brightest and has put the jump leads on back to front!!!!!!!! I am no electrician but I have had the fuse box out and tested a few. We can start the car , we have heaters working , interior lights, when hazzards are selected they work and the dash displays the hazard lights, also break lights work , but we dont have main beam , actually any beam, no indicators, no lights on the dash, the fuel gauge doesnt rise the windscreen wipers dont work or the washers. I am unsure as to where to start with this, what can be fried do you think. The fuses I have taken out for lights etc are ok in fact they all seem intact. I dont know how to check the relays but they all smell of electrical burning but that could be due to whatever has fried in the fuse box contaminating everything else. there are wires going off everywhere. Is there one that could cause all the above problems I can check with the multimeter. shame we may have had either an Mot'd or at least an almost ready skoda this afternoon ![]() as for the photie requests Ill try and remember to bring my digi down to my mums ![]() |

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start Maybe there is more than one fusebox, and auxillary one somewhere, or the bulbs need replacing.

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start You need to replace the fusebox. They are a Favorit weakpoint and don't take kindly to reversed jump leads.

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start what dave said. everything you've fried is a relayed system and either ALL the relays are burnt out, or the fuseboard has melted. make him pay for it lol. theres no aux fusebox as mannyo suggested, although do check your bulbs as you could easily have done them in too... |

| Re: 29,000 Mile Skoda sat in garage 7 yrs and wont start It could possibly just be the main ignition relay, but if it is the fuse board ive got a spare if you fancy a trip to doncaster cheers steve
