Favorit Tuning

im tuning my favorit and would like some help. Rite now im sourcing two weber dcoe 36mm carbs for intake. On the exhaust side i would like to know what size exhaust piping i should use.. i have thought of using a 2.5' downpipe and a high performance muffler. What size exhaust piping do u think i should use?

Re: Favorit Tuning

imho for a 1300cc engine it should be about 2" outside diameter tubing. anything bigger that this could lead to a loss in performance

Re: Favorit Tuning

Also, have you thought about a new manifold? If so, do you want a 4 into 1 for best peak power, or a 4-2-1 for better mid-range?

Re: Favorit Tuning

also i'm glad too see you are trying to find smaller carbs... the smaller carbs will give you better bottom end power, perfect for driving about town

Re: Favorit Tuning

I'm completely stuck on where you'd source a new exhaust manifold from (well other than probably Europe someplace).
If you're fitting twin Webers you'd not get an off the shelf CAI that would do any good; you'd need to make up a plenum chamber with a CAI inlet.

Re: Favorit Tuning

36 to 40mm side-drafts sound about right for a 1300 to 1600 engine. You don't want to go too big because that slows the airflow and stops the fuel atomising into and staying properly suspended in the air, which causes problems with slow running and pick-up.
If you can borrow a copy, try looking at any of David Vizard's books on tuning a 4-cylinder engine for far more information than I'll ever remember (or indeed try and type on a web forum).
