| Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. Hello all, I'm new to the forum having found it after buying and picking up an old Fav on impulse from ebay on Thursday I bought it purely to amuse myself as a project as I think the Favorit is such an interesting car, individual styling and eastern block Chezh engineering. (with the benefit of VW quality control, but no interferance with the styling, the last of the "true" Skoda's I reckon! lol). I'd had a new LXI back in 1993 and sold it after 3 years and 32000 miles, and felt it had to be one of the most under rated cars ever. Anyway had since moved on and had many Audi's etc, but always sort of wanted a Fav again just for fun, so I just bought one from ebay for the grand sum of £214, 1995 GlXIe Flairline with only 19500 miles and one owner from new! ![]() OK, so the catch is I don't think the old gent had ever washed it from new, it's sportline red, but had gone entirely a dull pink and had green moss growing all over the side and window trims, lol!! Also the interior was covered in dust and hairs from his Jack Russell or some such! Anyway, I've just spent the last 2 days washing, scrubbing and hoovering, followed by T-cut, Polish, Black trim conditioner, alloy wheel cleaner etc.. and I now simply can't believe the condition of it. I need to source a replacement bonnet and drivers side wing, as he has bumped it in the past and although repaired at the time, the quality of the repair was rubbish and as a result they have rusted badly and also caused the inner arch front to rust badly. The front alloys are also a bit curbed and the rear tyres need changing, as they are the original '95 Barums, and the rubber on the sidewalls has almost all fell off! the drivers side rear arch is just starting to blister right at the very inner edge where they all go, (although strangely the left side is perfect) so I'll have to spot repair this too... but apart from the above, it's amazing! the rest of the paint is original and now gleams like new, it has no dents, absolutely no rust at all, even the whole of the chassis is clean and free of any rust or dents, and the interior is as new, for some bizarre reason, now it's been cleaned it's got that new car smell back again! Anyway despite all and sundry telling me I'm mad, I think a weeks work and spending the same again on it as it cost me will have it looking brand new, I don't care that it probably won't have a resale value as much as I've spent on it, as I don't ever want to sell it, as it will do about 45 mpg, I love the styling, and the spec on the GLXIe is fab! just like it says on the key! Once I've got it perfect, I'm going to fit remote locking and an LPG conversion! I might be mad, but I reckon in about 5 to 7 years values of good clean Favs will increase anyway as there will be almost none left, just like the Good Estelles are now. Also, just my own observations and thoughts, but I'm sure that the last Fav's were exceptionally well made because VW headed up the quality control and went over the top with corrosion prevention to try and regain the reputation of the brand, at the risk of upsetting any felicia owners, when looked after properly Favs seem to rust less than the following model. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you all. And if anyone has a clean wing, bonnet or front grill in original sportline red paint please let me know. From one who knows the value of something can often outweigh it's cost! Regards Paul |

| Briskodian | Re: Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. You'll have to bring this Favorit along to local meets. Look in East of England or Yorkshire area threads for Skoda Klub of Doncaster & Scunthorpe events, cheers ... Darren

| Re: Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. Yeah, Favorit's a great car, I'm on my second and it's running like a sewing machine. The main problem with it is the same thing that affected Estelles back in their day - people tend not to regard them as a 'keeper' so they don't bother looking after them, so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I saw a proper tatty white Flairline just this evening in central London, right old banger - mind you it was still nipping along happily enough! |

| Briskodian | Re: Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. Favorits are definitely worth saving, as the oldest are now coming up 20 years old - went into mass production in 1988, came to UK 28.06.1989. Early pre-injection ones are very rare now and in the not-too-distant future are going to command higher prices as they become as rare as the rear-engined ones.I had several Favorits, including a 94 Blackline Estate and a 95 GLXie Flairline hatch in sea green met -a lovely car and I sold it 5 years ago to buy a 1997 Felicia GLXi. M827JEG was the registration - anyone know of its whereabouts??? |

| Re: Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. Favorits are without question, worth saving! The Favorit is something of a milestone in Skodas history. For starters it's Skodas first FWD car. In Mk1 form it's the last Skoda designed and built without VW influence, and in Mk2 form it's the first Skoda to have VW influence. I suppose you could argue that with it's split fold/unclip and remove rear seats it's the first mini-MPV too!Favorits are hugely under-rated cars. ![]()

| Briskodian | Re: Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. Although Skoda's used to be Front engined, they were still RWD. My 41 year old MB is Rear engined RWD, but the cars before that had a more conventional (for the time layout) |

| Re: Favorits, worth saving?, I think so. Remote central locking is not too difficult when you figure it all out. Surprisingly Maplin sell a full 4 door Central locking kit for about only £24, and a cheapie car alarm that controls central locking will give you remote central locking. There are even holes already drilled in the doors where you can screw the motor brackets to. I recommend leaving out the lock guards as I think they're only there to prevent someone with a coathanger trying to unlock it - which I doubt anyone would try on a Skoda TBH - and the covers are more hassle than their worth. Be careful with LPG and insurance though if self-installing. I think insurance companies will only insure them if professionally installed and if found the modification will probably invalidate any insurance claims. Sounds like you've got a good bargain! |
