| Hi there gentlemen, your site is excellent - many informative people out there, it's quite impressive. I was wondering if there are any owners or people who know about skoda 120s? I am thinking of purchasing a 1989 model, I have found a car but wish to know about the pitfalls to look for... any help would be much appreciated! thankyou, Russ. |

| Hi Russ Just to say welcome as I don't know Skoda 120's, though someone else might be able to help of course. I did a search on Skoda 120 and it shows 78 threads where it is mentioned (not necessarily the subject of the thread), in case you want some bedtime reading in the meantime ![]() http://www.briskoda.net/forums/searc...archid=1731299 Regards Mo |

| If it is a 1989 car then it will be known as an Estelle , or a Rapid if it's a coupe , wont it? Maybe if you do a search for these words on the site you may find some more info...or try a Google search for information!? Good luck with your purchase , if you get her , stick some pics of her up here!

| I owned two 120 s and a rapid previously For what they cost and what they did, move you from A to B I reckon they were a undervalued vehicle Mind you you did need to check water oil tighten the carb manifold nuts and any others that could work loose regularly brill to through into corners as they oversteered in a good way my 120 was a 84 LSE 1174 cc I had that off the clock it went like stink If the engine has been cooked it can be troublesome liners leak head warprs etc etc. the 3 bearing crank shows wear at 50 K if they are driven hard. Great car for DIY mechanics except the block with liners that requires a little more care and attension if dismanteling Col Last edited by Steambuff; 28-09-2006 at 22:34. |

| RUST !!! Check sills, rear arches.box section at the rear on the inside between tank and sill.Floors do not suffer which is a plus point.Engines are not a big problem and later 136 all alloy lumps can be fitted for more grunt, early Favorit engine can be modified to fit also but i have never done one.Gearbox's are not too bad if looked after (i have never had problems in 16 years of rear engined power). They can be nicely modified very easily and for little cost, lowered springs, alloy wheels, sport exhaust's the list goes on. I have a 1977 "120L" called Snotty......the only thing that she has that was fitted at the factory is the body ! the rest including all the suspension is Rapid 136 ! |

| Best advise is to just buy one!! I admit to being totally biassed, but I simply love these charasmatic heaps!! Check for rust where skudupnorth said though. I've currentlygot a few rear engined Skodas which I'm slowly restoring. They have become pretty rare due to their low financial worth,as lots were scrapped for relatively minor faults. Look out for the 105,130 and 136 models as well as the 120. All are fairly slow, but the engines eagerly deliver all they've got,and the handling is on the naughty side of "interesting" but certainly not as uncontrolable as the critics would have you believe. JUST GO FOR IT...TRUST ME,IF YOU'RE A KEEN DRIVER AND LIKE QUIRKY CHARACTERFUL CARS YOU'LL BE AS HOOKED AS ME!

| Hi all, thank you for your replies! Sorry for the late reply, I sometimes ban myself from using my computer until my exams are done. I eventually bought one, she's a '88 estelle with the 1.2 engine, painted with a house paint brush and a very well lived in interior. That said, she only cost the equivalent of GBP150 (i'm living in CZ at the moment) and I am deliberating as to whether I should modify her to my tastes or to restore her to original specifications, will do my research... If any of you have the time, I would be very grateful to you if you could mail me so I could stay in touch and tap on your sources of knowledge, my email is russell.perera@hotmail.com thanks again!
