This is a discussion on Goodwood Circuit Revival Meeting within the Shows forums, part of the Skoda Regional Meets & Events category; Seeing as Jon has posted about the FoS, I might just as well open a thread about my annual visit ...

| Goodwood Circuit Revival Meeting Seeing as Jon has posted about the FoS, I might just as well open a thread about my annual visit to the UK - which invariably happens to conveniently coincide with either the Festival or the Circuit Revival Meeting at Goodwood... ![]() This year my gang will be at the Revival on 5-7 September. The GRRC sticker has already found a place on the very retro MY2003 Octavia 4x4 (soon to be joined by the Briskoda sticker, hopefully) ![]() Is anyone planning to don himself (or herself) in period dress and join this greatest of old fart shows? If so, would be fun to meet up! BTW, reports on previous visits are on my website.

| Ah - forgot you could have a website in the profile. Sort of found it anyway via the pic links in his sig. No harm in asking tho - if only to allow others to shine :p |

| Thought I'd revive this thread to poll whether there will be any more Briskodians (apart from Stuart, who just confirmed) rolling up their well-waxed prides into the GRRC car park in September.

| I have never been, never seen any reportage of it so don't know what it's about - what's it about? Why the silly costume? Why is it necessary to have a well-waxed car? What does GRRC stand for .... |

| Nick: www.goodwood.co.uk - Motorsport - Circuit Revival Meeting, and you will know... Ah, I'll tell you. It's the annual recreation of a genuine Goodwood race meeting of the fifties and/or sixties, with some 15 races over the first September weekend. The track's been gloriously restored to what it was in its heyday, the cars invited must be strictly from the period (1948-1966), after which Lord March decided that it could be a bally good idea to have the people come in period dress as well, just to complete the picture. Since the first Revival in, what, 1999, it's been a huge hit. Great fun, great show, great racing. (And real, gizmo-free racing...)

| Well, you don't have to. The period dress is only required for GRRC (Goodwood Road Racing Club) members wanting to enter the paddock. If you are really interested in seeing the cars up close - that's my reason for going - that is the only way. However, most other visitors not wanting to shell out the cash for a membership join in the fun too.

| It sounds great fun, but sounds also like it could end up very expensive. The GRRC thing appears to be a bit cliquey - have to apply for a form to apply for membership etc... see if you fit the right image, I suppose ![]() |

| Yes, I've been a member for years now. Bit of an expense for overseas types like me, because I can't join in the fun of Goodwood trackdays, F1 factory visits and what have you. But then membership allows you to bring a guest into the paddock, so you can effectively split costs in half. As an overseas member I only gain from it at the Revival where paddock access is restricted. The Festival paddock is free, which only leaves the possibility to enter the Club's trackside enclosure - at further additional costs, of course. You pays yer money... The cliquey thing was bound to happen, of course, with both the events (Festival and Revival) growing so big - bigger than could ever have been expected. At first, with only the die-hard enthusiasts warming up to the events, there was no clique in the sense of shutting people out. Everyone got in and shared the same interest while the rest wasn't interested in joining the party - à la Briskoda, if you please . Now for 2003, with interest growing out of proportion, a membership stop was regrettably but inevitably introduced. Before that, there was no such thing required as 'fitting the image' - you just joined. There is and (I hope) never will be a committee to decide on new members.Apart from all this, both Festival and Revival are still the best historic racing events in the world, so wouldn't want to miss them for the world.

| OK, you IT guys, point me to one I can understand... (This is from a guy who still uses TextPad and his memory to manage that entire site.) Oh, I only have plain, unlimited webspace at 8w.forix.com, so can't run any scripts myself.

| Hmmm - good point - I imagined you had a web design company running it for you. There may be engines you can run from outside - I don't know. I'll dig around a bit. There are probably others on here with much better knowledge. |
