If I can go to this (awaiting permision) do you fancy going convoy style, I see you are in Chesterfield which is just a couple of junctions up the M1 from me. Anybody else from Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire going?

If I travel down from home sure thing, but I may be staying at the Crowne Plaza at the NEC as I am coming from the opposite direction the night before (& I have enough points for a free nights stay).

Will let you know.

Looks like a good turnout so far, looking forward to seeing some familliar and some new faces. At least from what I remember from last november both the pubs have large carparks. Although The Malt Shovel got very busy.

This can be true, unless of course you had a previous car like mine, then it seems huge! Though maybe I should have gone with a 10" rather than 12". Trust me to be greedy! :p

Talking And theres more............

Well well, now then now then.........

It seems as if the midland Briskoda meet is indeed to be an utter stonka!!

I make it 15 with Bandit and Les Paul joining.

By the time that we get there you never know, the magic unthinkable 20 may have been reached

So all Briskodans, I urge you to seek out your Briskodan bretheren and tell them of our happening on the 25th.

Your country and your Skoda needs you!!

I feel a skud invasion coming along... I think "stonka" is a damn good adjective for it.

I've mentioned this in another thread, but I'm not sure how many will view it, so I'm gonna request it here too. Does anyone have a decent CD cleaning kit? - The one for the actual player as opposed to the discs. My player is skipping nearly all my CDs, and I know its not damage to the CD thats doing it. I reckon its dirt on the head or something. I'll be eternally grateful if anyone has one, and it restores my music listening to a stutter-free zone. Cheers

I gotta ask... Who is Paul Hardcastle? Is he some DJ I've never heard of? (I know Paul Van Dyk - but not Hardcastle). I have found though when I play my Ibiza Annual CDs its not so bad. *Set me freeeeeee!* - I'd still like someone to bringing a cleaning kit, if they have one. Its really annoying when listening to the "Ibiza" type music and it jumps. Really ruins the mood if you're listening to Ian Van Dahl and it goes - *why we build .. ZzZz rasp rasp zZZ.. the sky* - Doesn't quite have the same effect does it?

I'm gonna rip that DJ Tomcraft - loneliness song in time for NEC meet - cracking dance song!

Nick - Thats ironic. I bought my mate the same cleaning kit for Xmas, then found I needed to use it first - Then it wouldn't bloody work. I think its supposed to play loads of tracks on the player, but it never went beyond track two - annoying as anything that!

You're too young to remember young feller-me-lad

Paul Hardcastle sang a song about soldiers killed in Vietnam called "19". Read more here

It was famous for the stutter on nineteen in the chorus - n-n-n-n-n-nineteen - as quoted by funky.

Gosh it gets dull when you spell it out - it was a pretty dull song, too - although a hit at the time (IMHO)

My kit only plays for about 1 minute - there's a little brush you dampen with antistatic fluid. It has worked for me in the past. If cleaning doesn't do it you may have another problem like a sticking drive for the lens.

Hee hee - When I saw the n-n-n-n-n-n before the nineteen, I thought it was kind of dance stutter / effect, not that it was actually older than me! With regards to my CD player I guess a trip to the company I got it from is in order to see if they can diagnose the problem. It still could be that I use cheap blanks to rip on to, and they probably can't take the stress of being in my car. *nts-nts-nts-nts*

BTW - if anyone wants to pick up a "styling whip" (behave...) at the meet, I may be flogging a couple!

Halfords silver replacement whip - 3 lengths (watch it...) - fits Skodas and obviously suits silver cars! (£5)

May possibly flog the black richbrook anti-theft aerial as well for a tenner.

Realised that local halfords (local to work, not home, that is) sells black styling whips (i warned you...) that I quite like the look of...

Any takers.... (?)

It's a very small aerial - or "bee sting"

I'll bring some cash along with me, just in case I like the look of it. There's no hassle in fitting it, I assume?

To be honest, I very rarely listen to the actual radio, so I could probably get away with just capping the bugger off at roof-level... I only normally listen to it when my skipping CDs p*ss me off so much, that I just eject the disc and frisbee it at force out my window in frustration

Jason,

I've attached a pretty poor quality picture of it but it shows what it looks like.

You can change the central shaft so it's long (and picks up radio stations ok), short (okayish) or a threaded bolt (no reception as such but looks v. small, silver, and quite cool)

Old aerial screws off, new one screws on - so easy enough to fit!

/Steve

Looks a bargain for a fiver. I'll put my name down for one now, and see what it looks like at the NEC meet. It doesn't look any stumpier than the original aerial... I stand corrected if it is of course. I love the bits of silver on it - looks top notch!

edit: I was just wondering if all these people are flogging bits of car, what mine is going to look like when I come away from the meet * hmm. the imagination is flying...

Also - attachment showing the Richbrook anti-theft replacement aerial which I'll probably want to get rid off as well...
