Yes Shaun, I'm looking for an extra auctioneer if you fancy helping out. (Is somebody else going to drive you there?)

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

Another update on the camping weekend....

There is some work being done on the camping field to install a "high and low ropes" climbing area.
I knew about this when I set up this weekend, but went ahead as I had seen the plans for it, and there seemed to still be plenty of room for camping.
The work commenced last week and having been down there this weekend the work is taking up a lot more space than I expected (and than was shown on the original plans).
I will hold my hand up and say this is due to lack of communication between myself and the contractor who is doing the work.
Anyway after some thought, and another visit to the site with Col G, we are still keen to press on with the weekend - I know many of you have made plans and are looking forward to it.

I have taken some photographs and these are shown below - you can see some of the ground clearance work that has taken place, but there is still quite a lot of untouched grass.

I have also got an agreement that anyone wanting to use the bunkhouse can do so at the same rate as camping (ie £5 per night). I would appreciate a few volunteers for this as it will relieve pressure for tent space.
I will speak to the rope course installation contractor tomorrow, and plan to meet with him on Tuesday afternoon to get final confirmation that there will be enough space.

On the up side I was out yesterday and have a nice little drive planned for us on Saturday afternoon.

When everyone gets there we can also have a look at what outdoor activities we may want to do on Sunday.

Many thanks for bearing with me on this one - I'm hopeful we will have another great weekend.

The area of hardstanding between the first and second gates can be used for parking...

A couple of general views showing the ground clearance work and some of the high rope course poles...

The mound of earth is about where we had the Gazebo last time, but there is a decent sized circle of grass round it...

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

The mound will serve as a good "centre" that we can dance round at midnight..

There should be plenty of space, but as andy says, anyone with mahoosive tents, might want to consider grabbing a bunkhouse room to free up space for tents..

i have no doubts we could accomodate everyone's tents on the site, but id rather not have to do a mission-impossible stylee over guideropes every time i need the loo

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

I would really like to camp, and not have to bunk... hope there's enough room... there was pleantly of room last time, and it doesn't seem too bad by the look of the piccies.... any chance you could convince the contractor to remove the mounds of dirt to clear the feild?

In that case you will need a Giant man made from straw/wicker, some virgins and a policeman

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

We definitely won't be camping.

The bunkhouse is an option and still under consideration, but it's looking like just a Saturday day trip for us - and therefore missing the bbq And maybe a Sunday day trip too depending on what is happening.

Anyone convoying up from darn sarf?! Which way is it from Hampshire there? Will you be meeting the M5 somewhere along the way? Gordano services/Birmingham?

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

I think I had best put a stop on accepting more bookings for camping at the moment due to the lack of space.
Still room left in the bunkhouse though.

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

Doesn't look too bad from those pics There looks to be some room on the top side of the access road which no one used last year, as col said dont'want to be tripping over guy ropes but if eveyone is sensible about the distance between tents we should be ok, a supply of earplugs might be in order to drown out the far£ers and snorers tho

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

Andy, there is a larger field opposite the camp site. Any chance of using that as
an overspill?

Its not really secure, and although its a country park, there are the occasional scrotes around, so I think its not a good idea.

Anyway I've been searching the net for inspiration....

As for the convoy from the South, we don't touch the M5 at all but we will be on the M6 from Wolverhampton at some point.

Well, EE has not got in touch to tell me that the cider is OK to pick up from Westcroft on Saturday morning.

Convoy from the services just north of the (M54?) junction, just north of Birmingham?
