That's out my way unless you go from Notts across to north of Brum? I imagine that's a little counter intuitive?

I don't even know what time we're meant to be arriving there Saturday.

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

midday! Oh my! That means I'll need to be at Westcroft by about 8am to get the cider then. I thought it might be a reasonably modest hour to start the day. I may have to aim to get there around 2

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

I have a small drive planned for Saturday afternoon. It will probably take around 2.5 - 3 hrs (including a country pub stop in the middle).
So we need to plan to set off by 2.30pm (3.00pm latest) in order to get back and get the bbq's fired up before it gets too late - especially the disposable Tesco ones that seemed to take forever to get going.
So please leave yourselves enough time to arrive, unload, set up camp, eat lunch etc etc and be ready for 2.30.

Andy , did the Tesco BBQ get going at all last time?
I will not be with you until around 4.30pm anyway , but hopefully we will be all set up ready for when you get back from your drive.

I'll be arriving around about the same time too Sarah, although I worry there might be no camping space left by then!

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

I might have to sacrifice the Saturday drive... Depends on what time I can get the cider from Westcroft, and what the traffic is like.

Oh, and I'm bringing the leftovers of my aquapel. See here:

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

Another update....

I've been down to Burrs today and met with the contractors on site. They won't be digging any more grass up before the weekend, so I'm hopeful we will squeeze all the tents on. A few more volunteers for the bunkhouse might help though.

Breakfast will be available at 9.00am on both days for £4. I will collect money on arrival.

For anyone who has already asked to stay in the bunkhouse, can you please bring your own pillow and sleeping bag (or double duvet if you are some southern softie from Devon )

Fishing - there is a fishing lodge on site. Day tickets are available from the Activity Centre at £2.20 for adults and £1.10 for kids. I asked what the lodge was stocked with and was told "fish" so please don't ask any more questions on that subject!

I have provisionally booked an activity session (hangover cure) for Sunday morning from 10.30 - 12.00. I suggest a group vote on Saturday when everyone has arrived, to decide what to do. Favourites seem to be canoeing, kayaking or raft-building. Cost will be £54 for 1-6 people or £108 for up to 7-12 of us. If we get maximum numbers this will be £9/head - a bit more if we don't fill the group.

We can probably do something else on Monday morning if anyone has not had enough by then.

And finally the weather up here is great at the moment - fingers crossed for the weekend!

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

saw a weather report that said it won't be as sunny as today.. cloudy and the odd bit of sun... but still warm... 18 celcius, so good for camping

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

Are we going to secure a clear area for the gazebo (if there's one?) and BBQ's so we can be in a group, rather than scattered around the tents?

Re: National Meet - Spring BBQ/Camping Weekend

Andy - Will it be possible to build a fire pit on one of the earth mounds to use as a bbq? or as anyone got a half oil drum we can use? then we would only need are a few meshes to cook on

this would be a good idea... the "communal" bit at the end of the night when we were drunk was good fun....

someone steal some police cones, and we'll save a bit in the middle! lol...

We'll need a clear area for the auction anyway. I'll bring a wallpaper pasting table to lay stuff out on.
