Rpm Late Summer Tour

Looks like RPM Promotions are at it again. They are organizing a late summer tour on the 31st August (week after bank holiday).

Those of you who attended the spring tour know just how good these tours are.

This time the tour is in South Wales with all it's fantastic roads, the motorsport venues are as follows:

Chepstow Racecourse - Start & Rally Stage
Caerwent Military Training Area - Rally Stage
Llandow Circuit - Sprint
Pembrey Airfield - Rally Stage
Pembrey Racing Curcuit

No more details at present.

Don't know anything about RPM, but the venues are all local(ish) to me.

I would be interested in more details, when they are available.

Seeking co-pilot.

I wouldn't mind doing something like this, though this year is probably a no no at the moment. Will certainly be interested in an event next year.

Hmm, probably pass on driving (as I'll probably be in a diesel by then) but if anyone wants a co-driver, just shout.

Do I understand this right?

Is this basically the opportunity to thrash round loads of smooth tarmac roads + tracks in Wales? Sounds excellent if it is!?

How much does it cost?

You do have hantro vid recorder on your phone don't you?

If so, copy to phone and play, or failing that download nokia's 3gp player for the PC.

What sort of costs involved here? South Wales is WELL EASY for me to get to, and I'd be tempted to "co-drive" for someone or other. I can't see my little tractor being any good anyway. Let me know what's involved with this, please? Smeone? It'll be only two weeks after I get back from France and I'm likely to be feeling the pinch after the hols and renewing my car insurance. ( Got first quote last night from Norwich Union... Nearly £600! Quote me happy, MY AR5E!! )

Just waiting for the pack to come through.

If its anything like last time, its about £160ish.

Twas a good day out with plenty of variety.

Looking at the list of venues:

Chepstow racecourse, This is usually the first stage on the Wyedean rally (BTRDA). A cracking little 1-2 mile tarmac stage, bit slippy in places, some run off

The military training area is also a good venue, remember it from my yoof

Llandow: a nice little circuit, just over a mile long, good surface, a few little bumps, a "bus stop" type chicane (and an opportunity to spin in the wet on the exit to the last bend eh Steve )

Pembrey rally stage: Dunno about this one, never tried it.

Pembrey circuit: again, not driven it but I do know its just over 2 miles long (if you take the extension up from Hatchets. Its got 2 different characters. Its shaped like a crescent moon, outer part is very fast bends, the inner part is a never ending sequence of bends, dominated by Dibeni/Paddock which is a very long challenging left hander.

I imagine the link routes will be "interesting" again. They do not take the direct route, but take in some lovely roads instead.

It is based on a rally format with full road notes and or the rally stages, proper route guidance (not pace notes). I can provide notes for Pembrey if anyone wants them (although they may be out of dates with the 3/4 mile extension from Hatchets.

Format last time (and probably will be this time) is 2 runs at each of the venues apart from the final circuit. Meant to be 6 laps, but I stayed out until the end of the session and did about 20

They also give prizes/cups for best driver in each category at each venue (Des got it a Castle Combe last time) best turned out car etc.

You also get to keep your number plate (cars carry a rally style plate on the front and numbers on the sides) and a souvenier keyring.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, as after the Ring, I tend to get bored with UK tracks. This had a good variety.

I'm deffo going (in case you hadn't guessed)

Jon

PS Co-driver sorted

Entry Fee £167.50 Covers car & two adults inc VAT.

Extra Passes @ £15
Children <14 are free.

Suggest you contact Simon Slade at RPM Tours, email is simon "at" rpmpromo.com

Mention Briskoda if you like, he might align our numbers to be similar...

See you there...

re insurance, normal cover might not cover you, please check, I did it last time without, depends if you treat it as a day out on fast roads or a day out racing, I chose the former and gave each bit of tarmac total respect and came away unmarked...unlike a cossie trying to keep up with Jon "ringmister" Rs.

edit: co-driving is whatever your "partner" wants it to be.

£160 is quite a lot for me to lash out on a weekend... Would it be cheaper if I was just co-driving? Or, even just coming along to watch? It would be a shame for me to miss out on something like this so close to home...

I've just mailed Simon to ask about noise restrictions, specifically at Pembrey. I may need to run with the bung in (and loose some of what little power my 1.4 can muster )

Jason, I imagine there will be people looking for co-drivers.

Yep!

I know mine is slow and that I've got the "Granny Driver of the Year Award" from 1998-2002 to prove it!
