Southern meet

Your quite right Jon, the "Southern weekly meet" thread was confusing.
So for the sake of clarity i have started a new thread as Jon suggests.

Here are the details as follows, the venue will be The Black Prince Pub/Hotel in Bexley on the A2 (a map can be found on the "Southern weekly meet" thread posted by Manny if you need one). If you could aim to get there for 11.00am that would be great, gives us time for intros and a chat. They do have a restaurant i will check it out tomorrow and report back.

Just hope the rain stays away and the Blue Water Shopping Centre traffic isn't to bad.

Cheers Des

I will definately be attending...

Although not sure how long we will be staying for since I will be bringing my young boy (2 Months old) who likes to travel but does not likes stopping anywhere for too long!

Also bringing the wife who just thinks I am (and all of us on here) a bit mad, but I guess thats a women thing?! Although I know a couple of members on here are females and understand the car thing - tell me how does that work, you don't find many ladies who like cars!

Cheers

Well spotted Manny, you win 2nd prize in the Briskoda Forum quiz. For 1st prize can someone tell me what bugger has nicked The Black Prince Pub and erected a Holiday Inn in it's place.

Is this an elaborate Delcac wind-up, i hear you say. I wish it was, still the day is not lost, i have found an alternative a little further into kent. A Beefeater pub called "The Green Man" in Longfield. Being a beefeater it does the usual menu and a sunday roast. It's not the easiest of places to find so i suggest we aim for 11.00am at The Black prince/ Holiday Inn as the meeting place and go from there.

Please could you confirm if you are attending as i will have to book the table for a large group.

I think thats everything, if anyone can think of anything else please shout.

By lucky, Des

Des,

My x 2 means my wife will be attending so thats one partner coming to provide discussion to other females not wishing to discuss the size of your turbo.

by coincidence I have been to Longfield once as I have some friends who live there that I met on a P&O Cruise. If I remember its the pub by the duck pond, it looked a really nice place.
What a small world I stayed at there house when I went to the meet with Karl last year in that vicinity.

Sorry for the silence been a bit busy, over worked under paid you understand

Still we have Sunday to look forward to. Just incase you haven't got all the details here they are again.

Sunday 9th Feb.

Meet at the Black Prince Pub/Holiday Inn on the A2 Bexley turn off (See Previous post by Manny for map) at 11.00 am, i will be there from 10.45 onwards. If you have trouble finding it give me a ring on 07970 639833, i will have it on all day.

Then a short drive to The Green man in Longfield on the B260, Main Road (DA3) for a chat and lunch.

Onto a place aptly called Octavia Hill. Never been here before but have been told it's a good drive (pos blast, will have check out route first) with veiws over north downs and a pub with a large car park. Unfortunatley Kent is not over endowed with fast, quiet roads.

Hope to see you all Sunday. 8)

Pics are online

Thanks to Des for organising what turned out to be a great all be it wet day, even if we managed to get lost on the little route he planned ( Look through the pics and find the one where map gazing is evident). Here is a temporary link to the pics for now.

Great, well done Des!

Sorry I did not make it in the end, had a rough nights kip and met Kevin for the 0-60's tests...how much is a new clutch anyway?

Looks like a good turn out, despite Briskoda meet weather.

[img:dcf18959c0]http://www.btinternet.com/~john.stopani/photos/des_meet/Dsc00190.jpg[/img:dcf18959c0]

What castle???, the veiw of the mysterious castle was stunning so we were led to believe. I felt a twinge coming on just being there it was awsome, Michele couldn't take it and felt like going into labour - what an excuse we had to stay - even Steves son put on an excellent act that he was sad to leave  (Steve enjoyed your lads company no end - he's a credit to you both - ten4-copy - roger - hows ya handle.)

Must go back in March:wink

Shame I missed it. Unfortunately, I had made other plans and met up with some friends of mine.

We decided to meet up at a quaint little hotel in the south of England, near to a little place called London. Well, me being me I arrived late and having 'phoned the organiser to establish the exact location of the hotel found that all the others had beaten me there, so I had to park seperately. Just as well really as my highly polished machine would have looked out of place amongst all the dirty ones.

Well, having parked up I wandered inside to find the group. It was nice to see so many familiar faces and a couple of new ones as well. Coffee had been ordered but alas not a single cake was in evidence. It was now at least 3 hours since breakfast!

After a rather dainty cup of coffee and a boiled sweet, but NO CAKE(!) it was decided that we should leave to go for a little drive to get lunch. The organiser then phoned me from 3 feet away to see if I was going to turn up (my goodness, the man is an organisational genius ).

We arrived at the pub for lunch and managed to find space for all our cars in a nice neat row, even though someone had to move theirs so as not to get in. Its starnge how they mark out the space where you are meant to park and someone automatically ignores them. We managed to get a table for 9, up some stairs and possibly as far from any other patrons as possible. One of our number decided that he was cold, so our resident technical expert turned the radiator on for him, only to complain that the valve only had 2 postions, ON and OFF and that the water that fed it was actually superheated.

After a leisurely lunch, and the discovery of a homing £5 note, we decided to go for a little drive to a simply stunning castle. So we set forth into the wilds of SE England for a little blast. I think that the person leading the group (he had some fridge magnets attached to the back of his car incidently) had been to some company called DmA and had their 1.4 engine conversion especially on some of the wider roads. We kept in touch with each other by using those little personal radios. I must say that the younger members of the convoy had a better grasp of how to use a radio than the older ones, although it was nice of people to point out the stunning views. As we had now been on the road for about an hour since lunch, I was hoping for a stop of at McDonalds for a McFlurry, but oh no, on we went. I also suggested stopping at a VW showroom so that we could ask the salesman why his cars were so overpriced for what they were. Unfortunatley, this to was declined

Anyway, after about another 45 minutes we pulled in to a layby, but could I see a castle? No. It turns out that our esteemed leader had been so fixated on the Rover that he had been trying to keep up with, that we had missed a turn (or was it 2?). After much consultation of a well thumbed map book we found out how to get where we were meant to be going - I even got promised an ice-cream when we got there So, we end up going down this rather bumpy road to get to the castle, oh how I which I'd bought a 4x4 of some description, with its feather bed suspension setup. It really was the sort of road that could induce you to give birth (if you were of that persuasion). As to the castle, simple stunning! Well, the gatehouse was rather natty, unfortunatley, even though our intrepid leader and tour guide had driven the route the day before, he had nglected to notice the large sign saying that it was closed for another month. But worse was yet to come - THERE WAS NO ICE CREAM SELLER!!!!

It was at this point that one of the cars that was there decided that it was time for them to go home. Apparently, the passenger was not feeling to well, possibly indigestion brought on by the bumpy ride(?) of these super hard street machines.

Our illustrious leader proceeded to give them instructions as to how to get home from the pub that we wre going to go to and so we set off - to a completely different pub! Once at that pub it was a case of out with the map book, find where we are and then failing all else, ask a local how to get back to the main road. The local very kindly offered to let the car follow him back to civilisation. Having discussed the possiblility of me taking my car on the driving range for a spot of driving practice, we decided to have a cup of coffee in the country pub we had stopped at.

We eventually found the entrance to the establishment. It was rather like someone had transported a mini Starbucks to the sticks. We tried to order coffee only to be asked what sort, I wanted filter but oh no, I had to have ground. So we ended up with 2 ground coffess, 2 cappucinos a lattee (but no syrups and it wasn't even skinny or grande) and a coke. The homing fiver then put in a re-appearance and once again would not leave its' owner. So we sat around chatting until last orders sounded at about 5:50 and decided to head off into the night.

I hope everyone got home OK, as I did, and that the passenger of the red car feels better soon.

I had a very pleasant day and would like to thank the organiser / tour guide.

Maybe I'll come on one of your meets soon, if I get enough notice.

Hugh
