They used to sell SAAB's, and are a very good small/medium garage - where if need be, you get to see the mechanic and talk over the problem with him, quite refreshing after dealing with VW dealerships!
They also seem to know what they are talking about, which makes a change, with the added bonus of the labour rates being far lower than VW.
Have bought 3 Skoda's from them so far and will buy a 4th

Have bought two new Skodas from them and found the sales and service team extremely helpful.
they have delt with the one warranty claim (brake discs) with no fuss, and all the parts i have ordered have been obtained very quickly.

Bought my 1st Fabia from them in 2001 (one of the 1st SDi's) Also took it for a service there. Very professional and knowledgeable. Would go there again if I hadn't moved 220 miles further south. Can't recommend highly enough.

Re: Philip Wilks - Durham

They also have a showroom in Darlington. Its a smallish family firm and very customer-focused. I tired desparately to get the wife to but a Fabia VRs and they couldn't help enough, one of the sons is a rally driver and he took her out for a spin, she still bought a Seat Ibiza 130 sport though!!
I got my Octavia VRs from them and they were keen on price, and with some haggling I got £2k off list. When I enquired about DAB audio again they spent a lot of time reasearching it for me. Don't know about servicing as I havent needed one yet, but when ever I've been in the dealers all the customers seemed happy. When mine is due a service I'm going to try the new dealership in Harrogate (Benfields) purely because its about 5 mins from my work, so will update later

Cheers
Andy

Re: Philip Wilks - Durham

My mum bought a Fabia from these a few years ago. They always seemed happy and friendly enough. I used to quite like going in fact. They didn't even black-mail us for part-ex'ing a Felicia L!

Re: Philip Wilks - Durham

Probably because Skoda wanted them to build a new, flash, multi-million pound dealership at their own expense!
Seems that a lot of the smaller family run dealerships have gone this way recently.

Re: Philip Wilks - Durham

Not all the staff are ex-Philip Wilkes , the M.D is from springfield honda , and so are a few of the sales staff .

Dunno what Philip Wilkes staff were like but i am only speaking on my dealings with M.S.B staff and it leaves a lot to be desired .

Re: Philip Wilks - Durham

You seem to no alot about them for someone who was ignored when you went there!!!!! The service manager, parts manager, sales manager, mechanics and new car sales lad are all (ex Phillip Wilkes). They made sure i knew that when i bought my car. Like i said they were great to me and probably to most people, i just want to enjoy my VRS ive spent far to much time talking about this now!!!! I would be intrigued to no how you no so about the owner etc by just being a customer? Are Slacks tipping you off!!!!!!

Re: Philip Wilks - Durham

Nowt to do with Slacks tipping me off , they managed to tell me all this themselves .

I,ve been in three times in total . .

first time i was ignored . . .

Second time spoke to sales man who was more bothered telling me who was who & how good M.S.B were (yeh right) than selling me a car , took my details . . . and ???

Third time lucky i thought , give them a chance . . . NOT FOR THEM , JUST LOST A £20k sale , only 2 staff in the showroom , one was with a customer & the other on the phone . Waited 20 mins then left without even being spoken to .

I had been all over looking for a new a Octy Vrs , Chapmans @ Pickering , Sudbury Skoda @ Cramlington , Sedgefield Motors .

Just happens that Derek Slacks offered me a £1k more for my p/x has been on the go since 1973 & have an excellent reputation , and is on my door step

M.S.B just didnt give a toss , come to think of it , i,m still waiting for a phone call from them with the "un-beatable deal" they were gonna do me

Shows how much they were bothered
