I had my car serviced by them under warranty, and the tracking was completely out. I went back to them 4 times over several weeks, pointing this out, and asking them to fix it. The tyres were clearly very worn even after 1000 miles, but Jewsons were completely unable to get it right. Eventually, out of desperation, I went to a local specialist tyre garage, who identified the front tracking as the problem (it was way out tolerance). I went back to Jewsons with this information AND the full printout from their state of the art machine to show them the evidence. Jewsons refused to accept they had done anything wrong, did not see a need to change the tracking and refused to reimburse me for 2 worn out front tyres (after only 4000 miles they had completely worn on the outside shoulder), so I had the tracking done at the specialist tyre garage. 20k miles later the front tyres are less than 50% worn. The problem stems from: - the fact that their customer service staff refuse to listen to the customer and take responsibility for their actions, even when you show them the evidence of their failure - the fact that Jewsons have not invested in new equipment (their tracking equipment was old) I would never use them again. |

| Originally posted by sprocket - Tue Aug 3, 2004 I recently bought a used Octavia Elegance Estate from these guys. I live in Huddersfield, so was taking something of a gamble by travelling all the way to Oxford to buy a car I hadn't seen. However Stuart the salesman made things easy. He suggested he fax through the service schedule, invoice and V5 so I could get the low down on the car in advance. The price was very keen, and when I had to delay my trip by a week at short notice he was fine about it. When I arrived on the day, Stuart pointed out that he'd had the rear wheels switched from another car that morning, as one of the alloys had a scratch on it. This was a bonus in two ways, as the tyres on the switched alloys were more expensive, and had more tread left. He also noticed a tiny bit of delamination on the passenger side wing mirror whilst I was test driving (I hadn't noticed), and the mirror was replaced at his insistence and cost there and then. The price was very keen - several hundred pounds better than any of my local dealers could do, and for that the car was properly checked and came with a 14 month Skoda warranty even though it was nearly 3 years old. Overall, this is by far the best dealing I have ever had with a car dealer. The whole experience was only slightly let down by a less than average valet. The car was reasonably clean, but some bits had been missed, and the polish had been unevenly applied and was very niceable on the black plastic and rubber bits on the outside. Overall an excellent experience. |

Not pushy, just gave me the facts, and his opinion when I asked for it. Valetting of the car before I picked it up was a bit lapse. Found some rubbish in the front bin and some paper in the glove box. Other than that pleased with them. |

I called in advance for a quote, which was about the best I'd had and then went down later that day for a test drive and to order. There were some paperwork delays caused by my cherished number transfer which slipped back the delivery date, but they lent me a car for a few days so I didn't go without. |

| Re: Jewson - Oxford Jewson's don't get my business because they will not service with an Overdrive card. As this is one of the biggest fleet cards in the UK this seems very strange for a "main" dealer. Didn't seem interested in helping me at all. |

| Re: Jewson - Oxford I have bought 3 Octavia Estates (new) since 1999 from Jewson. Always helpful, good deals, fair trade-ins, and good servicing. They always let me test drive new models, even when it's clear I'm not just about to buy. Definitely recommend them Nick |

| Re: Jewson - Oxford Rip-off merchants! Do not trust this garage to do ANY work on your car!!! I was quoted £350 to replace front brake disks and pads and to clean rear hubs. Went to DM Keith in Yorkshire where the car was purchased who could not believe the prices I was quoted. I ended up paying £211 for the same work to be carried out. The parts costs are the same for Skoda all over the country. The labour costs are £70/hour in Oxford and £58/hour in DM Keith in Yorkshire. There is no excuse for blatant ripping customers off like this. I am reporting them to Skoda UK as I am so disgusted with them. Tell all your Skoda owning friends to avoid this garage! |

| Re: Jewson - Oxford Mixed experience here, some good, some unforgiveable. Service was carried out but they didnt spot front brakes on the metal. Also did not identify the broken thermostat on my car, instead blaming the remap (which is BS). As a result NOW I have to sort out my headgasket as the thermostat was broken for a while (unknowingly) until I got a specialist to look at it. Really annoying as I was hoping to finally find a decent dealership local to me. It is still worth going to a specialist who are cheaper, do an apparently better job...

| Re: Jewson - Oxford I support the suggestions that you do not get your Skoda serviced here. They lie to you and they aren't user friendly. I will never ever buy anything from them again. I go to Merrits in Aylesbury now, better but still plenty of room for improvement. |

| Re: Jewson - Oxford a bit further in time now since my last post and tbh i only deal with them when i have no otehr choice as they are fairly useless at times and utter rubbish the rest. yes they did a good job for me and sorted out my gear box but every visit has been a chore due to their unhelpful moody nature. called in today to get a new locking wheel nut and was asked if i still had that old piece of junk octavia and if so why hadn't i scrapped it yet?

| Re: Jewson - Oxford Bout my car from Jewsons in January 2006 and the buying process was quite a pleasant one. Used them once since for a service and that was fine. I have used other dealers for servicing generally that are close to where I work. Contacted Jewsons the other week to enquire abut the cost of replacing my lower suspension arms in preperation for an MOT and was quoted a whopping £750. Suffice to say I went elsewhere (INDE-TECH in Milton Keynes) who did the work and MOT'd the car - total bill £377. HUGE difference. They even did the work a day earlier than they said it would be done. ************************************************** ***************

| Re: Jewson - Oxford The whole story is a long one when i brought the car from them they changed all discs and pads all round then after a couple of weeks i noticed there was a funny sound comming from the front brakes so it went in for that, then i got the car back with them saying there was nothing wrong with them they have just taken the pads out and cleaned them up. Also i complained a problem with the rear calipers as the car haddent had the dampening mod but they said they had sorted it without the modification. Two months later i went back to them that the front pads were wearing oddly on the offside front caliper. and was still having problems with the rear calipers. Sooo wat they had done was left out some shims on the calipers which was y it was wear quicker than the other side which they said they wud cover under a good will. for the rear calipers they wud need the modification after all but i wud have to pay for it, there was 0% chance skoda UK wid pay for it so i got on the phone to skoda customer care and had them sort it and had it dun in the end after 4months! Now also had a leak from the EGR valve and they say its common and is wat they do????!!!!! Apart from reading a thread on here a few weeks ago saying they had the same problem and there local dealership replaced it under warrenty! Sorry its a bit of a long one! |

| Re: Jewson - Oxford Quote:
I spoke to both Jewsons and Grey Gables, but GG were not prepared to negotiate as much as Jewsons, so Jewsons got the order. Could not fault them for purchasing really - bottomed the price by using the internet for reserach/prices, went to both and told them what I wanted and how much I wanted to pay a month on PCP. Jewsons got under my budget so that was that. I was thinking of using Spirit Motors in Banbury when it comes to servicing, Skoda approved VW dealer. One of my colleagues has a Passat and has had no problems with the service dept there. Also I work in Banbury so makes sense if they are competitive
