A Joint Declaration on Support of Škoda Auto’s Effort in China

On the occasion of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao’s visit to the Czech Republic, a joint declaration between ŠKODA AUTO, a. s., SAIC Motor Corporation Ltd., Volkswagen AG, and Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Company Ltd. was signed in Prague today.

Signing the declaration, representatives of the above-mentioned companies confirmed their concerted effort and demonstrated their will to further deepen mutual cooperation in accordance with a licence agreement on the assembly of the Octavia model in China as signed before. The partners also declared their maximum endeavour to consolidate and further strengthen the Škoda brand’s position in China as the launch of the Octavia model on the Chinese market starts a new stage.
In the opportunity of signing the joint declaration with the Chinese partners, Detlef Wittig, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Škoda Auto, said: “To us, China is a strategic market, and the signed declaration is another step towards the Škoda brand’s successful expansion on the Chinese market. Making this joint declaration, we have also laid the foundation for deeper cooperation future projects.”
The Shanghai Volkswagen company plans to manufacture the Škoda Octavia, a mid-size saloon, in China from 2007. Simultaneously, a high level of localization is expected, which will enable an economically profitable production. Škoda car sales and service will be provided by a network of selected Škoda dealers and service enterprises. The vehicles manufactured in the Shanghai Volkswagen plant will be intended for the Chinese market.
