| A year after the premiere of the Škoda Octavia RS at the Frankfurt car show, the range of drive units for the model has been expanded to include a 2.0 TDI PD engine. The heart of the new product is a 2.0 Turbo Direct Injection PD engine with adjustable geometry of the turbocharger blades and a maximum power output of 125 kW (170 PS) at 4200 revs/min-1. The engine achieves its greatest torque of 350 Nm at 1800 revs/min-1. The Škoda Octavia RS 2.0 TDI PD can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds, its maximum speed is 225 km/h (combi: acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.6 s, Vmax 224 km/h). Combined consumption is therefore a favourable 5.7 l/100 km (combi: 5.8 l/100 km). The new Škoda Octavia RS 2.0 TDI PD is fitted as standard with a no-maintenance diesel particulate filter and also an oxidising catalytic convertor, which means it significantly exceeds the EU4 emission standard. The new 2.0 TDI PD drive unit in the Octavia RS and Octavia Combi RS comes in combination with a six-gear mechanical gearbox.

| Hi there, this is my FIRST posting! I read about the RS TDI (or is it VRS?) and the 4x4 Scout in a weekly e-mail 10 days ago from a fleet leasing company BUT I can't find anything on any other website, including Skoda's. Can anyone verify when it is coming out, what price, full spec etc. etc.? |

| The trim spec of the RS TDi will be the same as the petrol. I have the Octavia brochure in front of me, from the engine specs I can see. Max Speed (MPH) , 140 Accel (0-62), 8.5 seconds Max Performance, 170BHP@4200rpm Max Torque, 350nm@1800rpm No fuel consumption figures are shown, just TBC. Figures for the estate are the same, except 0-62mph = 8.6 seconds. Pricing (RRP OTR inc. VAT and Tax) 2.0TDi Hatch, £18,375 Estate, £19,220 The VED band is still shown as TBC.

| Drove our vRS TDi demo today.............Wahaaaay what a cracking engine!!!! The power is just seamless from 1700 rpm to 4500rpm and the acceleration in all gears is constant in every gear. I've had 2 x 2.0 turbo vRS's this year and the TDi definitely has more mid - range punch than the petrol. The new TDi has a wider power band than any previous TDi and is definitely worth the extra Ł880. Checked out the mpg afer a 3 mile flat out burst though and only got 21 mpg average!! |

| No idea if an auto box is coming but the DSG paddle-shift would be nice. Its probably all wishful thinking and we'll be told "... its got too much torque ..." |

| The reviews of the vRS TDI are a mixed bag. Of particular concern is the torque spike which is even more pronounced than that with the 140bhp version of the engine. It badly affects the driveability of the car by all accounts. The DSG would help iron that out for the driver so you never know. Trouble is that then everyone will ask why the petrol version isnt getting DSG. I doubt VW will allow that as Golf GTI sales would really suffer. As for paddle shift, no way Skoda will ever get that and if they do it will only be because technology has moved on and paddle shift is old hat. Skoda are just too good for VW's liking I think. Long live the underdog.

| Nagh ! - stick to the TDi engine for Furby - how else will you get more torque than a Boxter or Impreza? |

| Regrettably, this is hte official Skoda response: "Thank you for your recent e-mail. I am delighted with your interest in the Octavia vRS but regret to advise you that at the present time, there are no plans to introduce an automatic model into this range. Thank you for e-mailing Skoda with your enquiry."

| Actually, both myself and wife are very disappointed with a test drive in the new VRs TDi Octy. It felt very heavy and quite sluggish, though very well built. We have a Fabia VRs and a Superb V6 TDi. We were looking to replace the Fabia, but now we are looking away from the Octy. Any suggestions for (Diesel) alternatives? |

| Many thanks for your comments. Unfortunately, there is simply no way I would modify the vehicle this way. If it hasn't enough BHP from the factory, then too bad. We still don't have a clue what to get other than another Furby VRs. |
