I think it looks absolutely awful. It looks like a car derived from a van. A few months after the launch, I bet they block in those rear windows and offer it as a van (most other manufacturers have adopted this approach in the past).

Oh dear, I can't understand the criticism from some of you at all - take a good look at it on the companies web and watch the smart little video. Play around with the paint colours and some of them make the car grow on you. Okay, so the back half is a bit hit and miss, but the interior looks great and typically germanic and functional. I would be surprised if a lot of the design from the front and inside doesn't go in the next generation Fabia. The downside to the Roomster's success could be it's target age group. The functionality should appeal to younger drivers (surfers, bikers etc..) but I can't help but think the blue rinse brigade might want one instead of a Daihatsu Charade.

Looks as tall as a Suzuki Fall-Over wagon. Hmm. Anybody done an Elk Test in one of these?

Because it's a mis-match of straight lines, curves, lumps, bumps, gaping holes and mis-aligned body parts!! it looks like the front (up to the B pillar) is from a completely different vehicle, It really is one of the worst designed vehicles i've seen for many years, (and thats saying alot with the new BMW's etc).

But come on, seriously - how many younger drivers do you ever actually see driving cars with surfboards on the roof? or mountain bikes etc? these type of people are usually found driving old VW beetles or campers, so it's pointless targetting a vehicle at people like that as they either dont earn enough to buy one or only think old VW's are cool!

As for the actual fuctionality - I wouldn't mind betting you'd fit more in a Fabia than that monstrosity, certainly an Octavia would be more functional. Top Gear proved a normal hatchback was more fuctional than an mpv and an estate wipes the floor with them!

"Okay, so the back half is a bit hit and miss"

I can see the "miss" bit, but the "hit" bit is harder to see. I honestly think this will become a "car derived" van. If you produce the car version first, then the van is referred to as "car derived" which means it can legally drive it at 70mph on the motorway. If you produce the van first, then it's not "car derived" so you can only drive at 60mph on the motorway, and private customers are turned off the "car" version because it's basically a VAN. LOL!

If they make it like this then they can easily adapt it into -
A Car
A mini MPV
A handy van
A pickup truck

........and it will all appear to work because it's an ugly beast to start with!

Re: Roomster launched

I was waiting for this to be released, I liked the concept and like the final result.

Looks like I'll be the only Roomster owner on Briskoda then!

I can't understand everyone's negativity....

Ok, so you can't please 'em all. I'm someone who is more than happy to embrace the Skoda brand, regardless of whether it's badged as a Classic or VRS. I thought brand snobbery wouldn't be alive and kicking on these forums. Des - I'm quite sure that when it comes to the UK showrooms, it will be a surprisingly good addition to a somewhat skinny model range.

Now, now, don't knock the Nissan Prairie - had 2 over a 10-year period and they did sterling service. Passed the second on to No. 2 son and he in turn passed it on to one of his mates years later. I understand that with no side (B) pillars (sliding door in the rear) they had to build it out of much stronger/heavier steel than normal - so no signs of the dreaded tin-worm even after 2 decades.....

Right - it's a total mess. Why do designers think that playing around with side windows is stylish? Look at recent Citroens or Fiats and you'll see a total mismatch. They combine large front windows with small rear ones - this reverses the trend, but to even worse effect.

Lesson 1: the bottom and top of the side windows ought to be either a straight line or a graceful curve. Not a variety of letter-box.

Lesson 2: It ought to fall gracefully on the eye, not assault it. If you disagree, please post your response to Brian Sewell, who knows a few things about cars.

Perhaps they are hoping to take some business away from Fiat, Multipla/Doblo owners will like this design!

Re: Roomster launched

Talking with the dealer, this is supposed to be targetted between the Furby & Octy size wise, however, it does look like they are targetting the agila brigade, as it is too small to target Zafira.

This also looks like there will be a few sales, for wheelchair access, the large rear, high roofline, take out all the rear seats, fix a ramp make the whole back a door and HEY PRESTO .

IMHO, they missed an opportunity, to make the inside a but more "FUN" like the concept. It looks just plain DULL inside. I REALLY hope they do NOT go with the light interior as seen on the main site. Otherwise it looks just like an attempt to muscle in on an already competative market, withoug doing something different.

Re: Roomster launched

Could you not just tint the windows privacy black.

I'm thinking black,tinted windows,vRS markings,nice alloys.

One thing that I found interesting is the suggestion it is the size of an Octavia 1

I think it's pretty safe to say that all of us on this site are "happy to embrace the Skoda brand", what most of us however are not, is blindly licking Skoda's a*se and heaping praise on every pile of cr*p that they produce just because its got a Skoda badge.

No matter how much you like your own car and support the manufacturer of said vehicle, that does not make the manufacturer immune from turning out lemons.

And to anyone who does genuinely like it - fair play, each to their own.

I don't really think Skoda give two hoots what we think Don't think they will send us any freebies in the post if anyone does any licking either

I hated it with a passion.I have mellowed a bit on it now.Still prefer the Yeti idea but I think it will be a useful addition to the range

Re: Roomster launched

Must admit I was a more than a bit disappointed when I saw the final version - the original concept car looked good and stylistically flowed properly down the sides, whereas the window styling on the final model is horrible and unbalances the look of the whole car . Its a shame as I think this could be a great car for Skoda as its unusual, functional, quirky etc ... but the window styling IMHO is going to put off loads of people as it now looks like a cut & shut granny mobile.
