Re: Octy 4x4 (EddyH's old one) 460bhp For Sale

Just to give a free bumb really,

and to maybe aid the interest in this car, as most people know this is some bit of kit, and like others, i'd love to own it, but i feel for me at this moment in time the running costs are more than i can afford,

However, moving on to my point;

Just out of interest i got an insurance quote on this monster from a company called 'alan and alan'.

I'm 21, 1yrs ncb, living in a low crime area (country folk :-)) and i got a quote for around the £2k mark, now this blew me away as i was expecting somewhere near the £4k mark, i pay a good £1300 on my fabia as it is.

So if anyone is interest in this car, dont be scared by what you might think your insurance quote could be, you might find you might be able to afford it..

Just thought i'd share that with you.

Cheers,

James.

The reason it isnt sold is probably due to the economy & people being over cautious. Having owned a similar car which I still miss I can vouch for this being a real bargain, I had less bhp yet could still run side by side with a 360 fezzer that was flat out & on the twisties its a match for anything. Insurance also on modded Skodas seems pretty good as well. Whoever ends up buying this will have a big grin everytime they drive it. When you see what you have to pay for similar performance its a bargain

Re: Octy 4x4 (EddyH's old one) 460bhp For Sale

Just for curiosity sake what the reliability factor on something like this?

With so many modifications is there any chance it could go pop sometime or the drivetrain give up the ghost? Interesting car but that's the sort of thing that's putting me off at the moment.

For that price I'd be happy to write the purchase price off after say 3 years and 30,000 miles but couldn't afford to replace the engine etc on a 2001 Octavia 4x4 after only 1000....

valvetrain is supertech so its uprated.
Engine runs forged JE pistons and forged Pauter rods

Its as well built as any engine. My racecar runs similar spec since 2005 build and continue to support >500bhp and 2.2bar of boost (sustained)

It has less chance of popping than a std motor with these parts.

Bill

I would be kinda tempted if I was in the same country!!
It'd need all sorts of extra certifications to get it into NZ. And I'd need a Lotto win!!

If its any help I ran just over 350 bhp in my Octy 4x4 & the car was used very very hard including track days & the odd Cannonball. The achiles heel was the std Gearbox which failed dramatically but once I had fitted the same unit as Eddy did from the TT it was fine. There are quite a few tuneed TT's with more power than this car using std transmissions. As for the haldex system provided the oils changed which is a std service job on any 4x4 it appears bomb proof. the only thing that might fail is the controller & again an upgraded one is already fitted.

The Engine has been built to a very high spec, they have used all the proper parts & has also done a few miles since the build, any problems would have shown themselves by now. As has been said you are more likely to break a std car than this one, its built to deliver over 450 bhp but I doubt you will ever fully use that. The only time I could really thrash mine for any length of time was on the track or racing Italian Exotica on continental motorways.

It certainly wont break in a thousand miles & I would expect it to be stronger than a std car. If you rag it to death, consistently do clutch dumping startes , dont service it etc then something will eventually break but so would a std car & a lot earlier.

Go & have a test drive & see if you can keep the smile off your face, the best bit will be the handling & the way the 4x4 system puts down the power.

Its an estate, the most practicle car you can get with far more performancethan many sports cars

Its got far better seats that a stock Octy so more comfortable.

Its stealth so wont get too much attention when being enjoyed (up to a point obviously)

It can genuinly be used as a daily drive.

Is it sensible, nope but why be one of lifes grey sensible pople. If you want sensible get a priassssss

its all the above.
its as docile or as mad as you wish to drive it or rev it..

24mpg is its downside, but that better than the 19mpg I got from the S8 before.

its faster than the other road users around so you cant drive it flat out nor would you wish to. its there when you want it and are in the mood.

I am not in the mood for it, need to raise some ££ with my new premesis & equipment so its not required.

My mad car is my ibiza. I have no need of this one.
