Hi all,

Has anyone ever fit 100 watt bulbs to their Mk1 Octavia VRS, I was thinking about fitting them but not sure if you can just bang them in.

Two things !

100 Watt lamps are ilegal for road use, and you could burn out the wiring, switch, or connector

Re: 100 Watt Bulbs??

Hi
i had a set of 100watt philips rally sport bulbs in my octy vrs ran them for ages no problems and they were good only reason i changed them was to fit a virtual daylight hid xenon conversion kit which is superb does what it says on the box.
Regards Woosh

It's not the illegal part I am worried about it's the wiring I don't want to burn out.
Thanks for the warning

Re: 100 Watt Bulbs??

I run 130w in mine (Fabia). No problems at all. Done about 10k miles and at this time of year, most is in the dark with lights on.

Re: 100 Watt Bulbs??

130 Watt rally Bulbs in my Mk 1 Octy as well for about 50,000 miles, no problems

If they are cheap enough get 3 as you could do with a spare. They dont seem to last as long as the candle powered ones, Ive replaced 3 in the time Ive had them

I've run 100W'ers as the main beam bulbs in my last two cars and they've been on for up to 3 hours at a time (don't ask ) without any problems at all. The concern with running them as dipped beam bulbs will be dazzling oncoming drivers, and also potentially passing the MOT if they spot that the bulbs are running over 55W.

Re: 100 Watt Bulbs??

The MK I octy uses H4 bulbs for Main / Dipped beams.

That means the same bulb for both, hence I'd get some uprated bulbs as 100W bulbs on all the time is potentially going to cause some heat issues.

Fine on just main beams though.

Yep, i've run 100 watt lamps in H7/H1 configurations and they have been fine although the old Primera did suffer some heat damage where the wires ran to the connector blocks on the back of the bulbs, the insulations was a tad crispy but that was more likely down to crap French electrics

I also ran some PIAA extreme white H4's for the dipped beam and they both popped within 5 minutes of each other - at 10pm on the M23, I had to drive to Pease Pottage on sides and front fogs, looked like a right cnut
