Am I reading that correctly, price is each !!

try www.affinitywheels.co.uk, If you talk to them ask for Paul, he did me a stonking deal on a set of wheels before the cannonball last year. Also double check which tyres they include in trhe package as some are 2budget" tyres to keep the deal looking good

I'm confused as to whether it is one wheel plus tyre or one set of 4 wheels plus tyres for £420.00.

The PCD is correct but not sure about the offset.

The tyre's are completely the wrong size. With 17's you would need 225/45/17 tyres.

The tyre size shouldn't matter as 205 is the width, which depends on the width of the alloy, and 40 is the tyre height which is smaller than 45 so will fit ok

Offset is wrong for a 7 IIRC, you need ET38 max.

They'll physically fit but the speedo will be way out, the arch gap will be massive and ride will be poor.

Correct.

The different in side wall height of a 205/40 and a 225/45.

205/40 17 has a profile of....82mm

225/45 17 has a profile of....101.25mm

A considerable difference of..19.25mm in diameter.

Yeah, I know from experience as I bought a set of second hand wheels with that size tyre back when I had the Golf and it was terrible, I had to change the tyres ASAP due to the ride quality and ground clearance more than anything.

Dont really get this as as far as am aware the standard 17's on the vrs come with 205/50, which is only a 10% difference in tyre side wall depth or 20.5mm. I know maybe the ride quality will suffer, but surely that is always the case when you go with bigger alloys and low profile tyres????

By the way i currently have 16's with 205/55 on my L&K

Just done some quick claculations on this.....

My current 16's : wheel= 40.64cm(16*2.54)
Tyres= 22.55cm (205/55 = 112.75mm * 2 for either side of alloy wheel)
TOTAL DIAMETRE= 63.19cm
THe 17's: wheel= 43.18cm (17*2.54)
Tryes= 16.4cm (205/40 = 82mm * 2 for either side of alloy wheel)
TOTAL DIAMETRE= 59.58cm

DIFFERENCE = 3.56cm total diametre - does that cause a problem???

Think those figures are right lol

Standard OCTAVIA vRS comes with 225/45/17

And yes 3.56cm will make a BIG difference.

using 205/40/17 will give a 5.7% speedo difference, using 225/45/17 is only 0.4% difference.

The ride will hardly suffer at all in my experience with the correct tyre size on 17's.

Even if you aren't bothered about the ride quality it's gonna make the wheels look small in the arches due to change the proportions of the wheel/tyre within the arch.

Erm, yes it does make a difference, think circumference

FYI:

205/55/16
Sidewall 112.8mm
Radius 316.0mm
Diametre 631.9mm
Circumference 1985.2mm
Revs per mile 811

205/40/17
S 82mm
R 297.9mm
D 595.8mm
C 1871.8mm
RPM 860

Goes round a few more times per mile doesn't it Good for acceleration, ****e for top speed &, as Eddy says, will not be so comfy but will turn in better.

Didn't know that, thought it was the same as the rest of the Mk4 platform VAG range. So I suppose that size is also an option then.

-6.44% difference, way outside the 3% industry recomendation.

Speedometer Results MPH
Original Target
30 28.07
40 37.42
50 46.78
60 56.14
70 65.49

But I'm sure they could change the tyre size for you...225/45's are the max on a 7" rim, even thats pushing it, but they are cheaper normally than the 205/50.

The 205/50 will feel more comfortable.

Shame the octy rims are not 8" as then we could share the audi default size of 235/45's.

IIRC the theory of tyres is that the contact area of the 205/50 and 225/45 is almost the same, just a different shape.
