Anyone good at Photoshop?- Colour coded Radiator Grille

I have a RED Octavia vRS and and fancy having the chrome radiator grill sprayed black to give the car a more purposeful look.

Before I do so; is there anyone who could photoshop up an example (pic of my car can suppiled by e-mail)?

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

I'm sure someone will be along to help you out with the photoshop soon, but in the meantime have you looked at VRStu's site - Octavia-vRS.com - Colour Coded Grille.
Unfortunately there is....

Black car, black surround, black grill
Red car, chrome surround, red grill
Red car, red surround, black (milotec grill)

but not

Red car, black surround, black grill which I think is what you want!

Thanks. Been there; done that; and that's why I asked the question.

During this morning Joff came to the rescue and a few e-mails later we have what I was after. Here's my car as it is;-

and here it is after Joff worked his photoshop magic wand (although I think I'd go for a matt black finish to compliment the grill and lower section);-

For my red car, black is a natural contrast and takes away the bling look of the OE chrome. I don't want to colour-code to red 'cos that's tarty.

I saw an Audi A4 with Black grill & surround the other day, as opposed to that gaping jaw of bling chrome they otherwise have, which gave me the idea.

Black on Red is understated but nevertheless purposeful. TDI vRS is Skoda's cool car.

Can't say i like that, looks like you broke the first one and not had the replacement grill sprayed body colour.

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

I tend to agree with MDK there..

I quite like the look of a matt brushed aluminium grill surround, less bling than the chrome.

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

seeing this thread made me think about how mine would look so i did a quick n dirty photoshop too. Not sure id like the black above but as bahnstormer says it may look better in more of a matt black.

wouldnt mind getting mine done but id have to find a sandblaster plus someone to paint it. i noticed some grilles on ebay for £54 plus del so you could always get that altered to your liking before putting it on your car

Yes; a softer 'matt' black looks better, blends with the rest. Gloss black will stick out too much I think.

Might have a look on e-bay and/or experiment with some black tape first.

It would look better with black wheels as well.
It gets my vote, although as said, matt would look better imho.

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

My wheels are part way there having a polished gunmetal finish, not your usual silver or bling shiny chrome.

Makes me think just a dulled finish to the chrome on the grille surround might do well, as opposed to going all the way with black.

Had a play at the weekend with some black insulating tape and blacked over my grill. I haven't taken a photo yet, but I have to agree that it doesn't look right; more like a manufacturer's prototype with black tape to disguise the styling. Also the black grill is now too bold.

I managed though to find a copy of photoshop in the office and have made an attempt at doing a 'Colour Coded' version with the grill in Red. The red is slightly too dark but overall the effect is, IMHO, actually quite good. I'm now more inclined to do the grille red than black.

Here's the resulting pic;-

Opinions please.

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

I think that looks good, it ties in with the body coloured mouldings on the doors.
Subtle mods that make it stand out but have people wondering what's different?

Good call if you get the paint match spot on!

Should be easy to do; Corrida Red.

Not like the silver on the radio fascia in the vRS which I (my dealer) am trying to match to an unpainted surround; can't get the silver to match the other silver trim bits on the dash/doors!

Colour coded red is definitely the way to go IMHO, I did my fabia yesterday and it looks well smart. Different car...but let me know if you want to see a pic to give you an idea.

Yes please; a pic would be good to see.

I've just bought some Red tape to be able to mock-up mine colour-code to Red; may not get this done 'till the weekend.

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

Cheers I am very pleased with the result.

I don't think the chrome looks bad, it just looks out of place being the only chrome piece on the car. Black does look prototypish so I think red is the obvious choice....unless maybe just maybe the same colour as your wheels would work? Then again maybe not lol.

I think painting my plate surround may be a bit much, i've got the black wheels and want to keep a bit of a contrast, it would be nice to see though, I may well change my mind....

I think the red is a lot nicer looking than the black

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

I've done a couple of mock-ups with black and red tape over the chrome grill surround to see the comparison. On balance IMHO the black is too bold and the red is pretty good, complementing the colour coding of other bits of trim.

Here are a few pics of each;-

I think I'll try and get my grill painted Red.

Re: Anyone good at Photoshop?

Just received a new grille painted RED from my dealer; hope to get it fitted over the weekend (or perhaps next) will post a pic once done.

I will also get some clear protective film to put over it first, to protect against stone chips.
