Question Bonnet lifters

I am interested in fitting lifters to the bonnet of my Octy vRS and I know that the subject of fitting bonnet lifters has been covered before...

However this is a slightly different slant on the subject!

1. Is it possible to fit the lifters fitted to Mk4 Golf to the Octavia - are they a straight fit or do they require modification? I quite like the thought of the black VAG part as it would look more 'factory'.

2. Are there any implications in terms of stressing the bonnet structure. I have heard that they can cause the bonnet to buckle or droop at the point where the lifter attaches to the bonnet itself. Cars fitted with lifters as standard, have I've been told, got reinforcing at this point.

3. I was also told that with 'cheaper' lifter kits that they can fail and cause the bonnet to open when you don't want it to!

4. Any implications for the warranty?

Sorry to ask so many questions but answers to any of the above will be gratefully received!

Many thanks

I don't think the Golf ones will fit as these are mounted to one of the suspension turrets.

I have Miltotec ones and these work fine. I don't see how they could pop the bonnet open...they'd have to work out how to release the bonnet catch.

They are connected to the bonnet hinge and the front wing.......so no worries on bonnet buckling.

No sure about warranty.

Cheers.

i'd have thought if the bonnet somehow did pop open and put the window through resulting in you righting the car off Skoda would somehow try to pin it down to the unfactory fitted lifters but theres not much chance in this happening

i'm fitting a set of the milotec ones this weekend and i'm not worrying about any of the above.

Did you order these from Germany? I'm after some, how much do they cost with postage?

There's a GB on at the moment for bonnet lifters. If you're quick you might just be able to tag on the back of it....... You'll need to be quick though

Behave yourself Jimmy.

Not sure if Butts do these...I got mine from Germany.....bl**dy expensive as you have to do a European money transfer.....cost me £70 in total.

Would be better to club together with some others then you share the cost of European money transfer and P&P.

Is that the same group buy from that company that everyone's been having problems with? or is there anyother group buy?

European money transfer, do they not take credit card?

Forget about the AAT group buy......

If you deal directly with Milotec they don't accept CCs.

One end of the Golf strut is mounted on the suspension turret so unless you're good at welding........

So could you go to your local Seat garage and order the factory fit lifters and bolt them straight on to an Octy?

If so how many would I need? One each side or just one on the left or right?

I'm after that factory fit look!

I'd imagine that you'd need two, one for each side. Are the seat ones not the same fitment as the golf ones?

Anyone fitted the seat ones?

I really don't know! I suppose the choices for non 'bling' ones are Audi A3 + A4, Seat Leon + Toledo and the Mk4 Golf (the Golf option appears to be out of the equation).

I think one each side would work best too - so at least that is sorted!!!

Here's a pic shamelessly nicked off RobDon on Cupranet...

There's only one as standard on the Leons and they fit to the bracket that we've already got...

Don't either Des or Mr Jutel have one of these fitted

Thanks for that stathap!

I think that has probably ruled out Seat ones too.

So perhaps Audi ones maybe the answer.

They appear to need a special mounting plate to attach the base to (located on the suspension turret). I'm pretty sure my Octy hasn't got that already fitted.

Also I might need to drill a hole in the bonnet to attach the other end to...

I think I need to study whats already there in more detail
