Cheap Aero Wipers

Was in Tesco Extra today and noticed they are doing Aero wiper blades for £8 each.

These definitely fit onto the standard arms and might also fit onto the OEM aero arms as it has a multi purpose clip.

Large range of sizes ( IIRC I saw 16", 18" 20" and 22" plus others) and at £16 a pair that's a bargain.

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

They are tesco own brand, but I know somebody who ran their non aero wipers and said they were just as good as the others and better than halfords.

TBH at £8 a time they might be worth a punt for those who wish to try aeros on their fabia etc

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

Has anyone tried these yet? I need a new wiper and was thinking about getting a couple of these.

Also i guess these will fit on a standard Fabia wiper arm will they?

Cheers

At £8 there isn't much to lose IMHO.

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

Bought some yesterday for my 6n2 Polo. They fit fine. Took 5 mins (in the dark!) to fit and we've has torrential rain here today so glad I fitted them when I did. They work brilliantly. Really quiet and keeps the screen very clean. Works well when there's spray coming off other vehicles or really fine rain. Work better than the Bosch ones that were on it. and for £16 for two it's a bargain!

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

They do pretty much all sizes. On the back on the packet it shows all the fittings for all the different wiper types and comes with plenty of different adapters so you should find the right one. Mine was the 1st one. My dad had a Mk1 Octavia TDI and they fit his so i'm presuming it's the same fixing.

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

I have just bought a set and was a little disapointed initially as they are not really "Aero wipers" but standard blades fitted to an Aero style carrier.

Then i realised that when they wore out I should be able to fit PIAA refils...

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

Fabia size is 19" (passenger) and 21" (driver) - so you'd need to ensure you have these sizes. However, I imagine you could get away with 20" and 22" if need be. An extra 1/2" at each end shouldn't mean they go off the edge of the screen of foul on one another when in motion.

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

hey all
i have a set of these and although they work great up to 70mph, after that they are useless.
might be due to the adaptor blocks lifting with wind resistance.
also they are noisier than normal blades in terms of wind noise.
they are dead flexible so can be bent to get the fit just right

The standard aero wipers are the same as far as I know. VAG do a refil where you take off the end cap and slide in a new rubber which I have done and they even supply you with a new end cap. I would have thought the PIAA refils would fit in the OEM ones too.

I've never had to bend aero wipers

It might be worth lubricating the springs in the wiper arms if you feel they are lifting off at speed. The block should have far less wind resistance compared to a standard wiper cage.

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

We fitted Bosch aero blades on SWMBO's Octy a while ago, and a few weeks later (cheaper) Trico blades on my Felly. Seems as if the Trico blades actually last longer although they're cheaper...

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

Worth getting to keep in the garage until the Bosch ones wear on on mine and SWMBO's cars. If it's 19/21" (I thought 18/21", actually ), then would 20/22" like Jason suggested be OK, or should I play it safe and get a pair of 20"ers?

Update:

It is 19" and 21" as standard, and Tesco do the following sizes: 16", 18", 19", 20", 22" - so one 22" and one 19" have done the job nicely!

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

Some pics oif going from Valeos to Tesco Aeros on a Skoda Favorit.

Valeos

http://www.an1.co.uk/wipers/DSC00558.JPG

Weird chunky look of aeros from drivers seat - although I think my wipers sit quite high at parked compared with most cars, so you may not get this effect.

http://www.an1.co.uk/wipers/DSC00559.JPG

Improved exterior appearance http://www.an1.co.uk/wipers/DSC00560.JPG although have to wonder if those spoilers will catch the wind and make them lift up. Also, the passenger side blade does not fully mate with the windscreen in the parked position, but both clear the screen much better than the valeos they replaced that can't have been much older than 8 months old.

From what I can make out from this pic you have them upside down.

The longer bit of the spoiler that sticks out perpendicular to the screen (if that makes any sense) should be further up the screen.

If you think about it, wind flowing over the car as it moves, it will push the wipers down more if you turned them up the other way. If they are the same as most other retro fit wipers it should be that the fitting can be removed and then put in the correct way. This will stop them lifting.

Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

I just fitted them the way the adapter came fitted in the box and it seemed to make sense to have the clipped bit on the outside They do still seem to fit ok anyway with the adapter swapped around.

I guess they are all made LHD then you have to swap them.

Exclamation Re: Cheap Aero Wipers

Just to warn everyone:

I sense a recall coming with these wipers, as although the connectors can be swapped round, they only lock in place in the LHD orientation. The wipers can be made compatible with RHD use, but it requires the total disassembly of connectors and spoilers, then reassembly in the RHD orientation!

I've yet to do my wife's, so I'll take some pics while I'm at it. In the meantime, be careful, as although the wiper arm spring may well hold the blade in place, it's still loose...
