Cleaning cloth seats

At the weekend, I thought I would have a go at cleaning my rather dirty drivers seat. However in the process of doing this, and now its dried it looks worse than it did before I started.

I want to now get it back to how it should be. I have tried upholstery wipes, 1001 upholstery cleaner, and I just cant get seem to get the seat back to how it should be. Currently the seat seams to have a white residue all over it that I cant remove. I spent ages on it again this evening but its drying the same way again.

If you were closer I'd say you can borrow my Vax, but somebody on here your way must have one. If not they can be hired for £30 (rug doctor) or had for £35ish on e-bay.

I used my Vax on all my cars, works a treat.

Yep, I'd say either a decent wet 'n' dry vacuum (Vax, etc) or a recommended valeter locally

Know what you mean about it looking worse than when you started; that's happened to me a fair few times! I tend to use a good local valeter for the interior when it needs doing. They do a very good job and there's no substitute for proper industrial cleaning equipment. I suspect Manchester is a bit far for you though!

Seriously though the rug doctor is good to hire, but I'd never be able to justify almost £500 on buying one when a Vax will do a similar job and if it wears out you can buy 10 more and still have change

Wet and dry vac will sort it out

Leaving to air dry will always leave stains and streaks.

for the sake of a couple of quid i would try 'shout' from tesco. i love the stuff and it brings my seats up like new. it gets rid of all manner of stains but doesnt leave water marks or anything either. so far its successfully removed SWMBOs make up, beef in black bean sauce, muddy footprints, cat **** and even oil! i think it only costs about £1.80 (its great to have around the house too)

I use AG fabric cleaner in my car and a wet clean cloth. If you spray too much staff on the seats they will go wite and eventualy worst then you started. What I recomend in your case is a bochet of clean warm water and a few clean clothes which must be rised in water after each rubbing of your seats.If you use a white damp cloth will see the amount of dirt piched up that is why it needs water rise.
This is the way I am cleaning my seats and door fabric trims so I hope it will help you.

it comes as a spray on liquid and you can either spay it on direct or dilute it with a bit of water - i just spray it straight on and work it through the fabric with a good clean cloth. works absolute wonders on my seats and the best bit is it doesnt leave marks. smells nice too

I used a VAX 6151sx and it brought them up like new, even though they looked ok i was amazed at the colour of the waste water

YUK!!!

Left the seats only damp and were dry in a few hrs

Well..... Ive got leather now so cleaning them is so easy lol.

With the old seat covers off. I shoved the back, base and headrest in the washer and left to dry on the line. They came up like brand new.

Phat28VRS is now the new owner of this cover. Good luck with cleaning the rest

Ooo i have a toddler and white chocoalte issue with my rear seats so been trying to find out how best to bring them up. I'll give the shout a go. Otherwise, do they do mini handheald vax thingys or do i just use a standard carpet cleaner type one?

My two penneth;-

Dry vacuum to get the worst of the residue off, followed by Autoglym Interior upholstery cleaner (shampoo) with a nailbrush and damp cloth.

Works an absolute treat on Fabia seats (several times).

The mini one exists but you can buy the Vax-020 for under £40 delivered from an ebay shop as a graded item.

These work really well. Alternative is to use the husband/boyfriend cleaning accessory

Shout gets my vote, I keep a bottle in the boot (is that sad?) well its for the oafs I car share with and their mucky hands.

(OT but dont you find non skoda owners you give a lift too really shut the doors with a great big whack! Its not a bleeding french car)

Just do the whole cloth bit at once , doing a small area will leave marks when dry. I use it on the seats, carpet, door cards everywhere in fact, I even used it on my powdercoated alloys to give them a nice gloss.

My SWMBO took car to Mcds and when she got the food she put the cokes on the passenger seat in those stupid cardboard drinks holders they give you and they spilt all over the seat and they've been coke stained for months now nothing will get it off not even Autoglym Super Interior Cleaner

Might give that Tescos cleaner a go next time im in

Worth noting for people the bit in bold above

For a standard alloy wheel, finished with a layer of laquer, use of a strong cleaner may cause issues, to the extent of removing laquer and any painted finish completely.

well i just been cleaning the damn thing for 2 hours!!! Got bored while waiting for the polish to dry and ran a dashwipe over the seat... it would seam they get white chocolate out! Bit dark out but i'll see what seats look like in morning.
