cleaning exhaust...?

Hi,

Just wondered if anyone had any miracle cures for the soot/rust build up on exhausts. Its had a build up for about 3 months and now nothing seems to want to shift it.

Tried -
foaming wheel wash
car shampoo
citrus degreaser
+ loads of elbow grease but very little has come off, in fact only the excess top layer of soot came off...

Oh, and yes I agree it would have been easier to wash it whilst i washed the car, but I over looked it a couple of times and the car is being let down by its back end now...

Re: cleaning exhaust...?

Oddly enough no.

Halfords or any motor factor will do it.

Re: cleaning exhaust...?

Speaking of sugar, one way to clean chromed parts like exhaust pipe outer surfaces is to take a sugar cube, dip it slightly into water and rub it (with enough force) on the dirty surface. Saw that in a house cleaning tv show and thought first "Now that's bull".

Gave it a shot anyway on the exhaust pipe on my old Focus, and bam! Under the thick layer of all kind of dirt a chromed pipe was exposed; never knew the bloody thing even had one until then.

As should be fairly obvious, don't try this on painted surfaces.

Let us know your experiences once you have tried it. By the way, you probably need (a lot) more cubes than in a normal cup of tea to finish the whole exhaust. And really dip only one corner in water, otherwise you just end up with a sticky fingers.

Re: cleaning exhaust...?

Along with the sugar idea, comes the tomato ketchup. Not sure of its worth, or which brand, but it supposedly works.
