| When I bought my Superb in january, I failed to notice the light scatches on the drivers side. They are mainly light ones and located on the rear quarter and around the door handles (front & rear). I always wash the car using a wash mitt and use Meguiars stuff. I am pleased to say that this has allowed me to be swirl free. I have now decided to try to remove the scratches. I bought some Scratch X and have tried a few times by using a foam applicator and wiping the excess off when done with a Meguiars terry towel. The scratches are still evident, but not as bad. My questions are, 1) How many attempts will I need to get rid of light scratches?? 2) Will the fact that I wax my car every week mean it will take more attepts to remove??? 3) Would I be better off getting a PC to do the trick (found a place selling for £83) I had thought about getting them done when I have my rear re-sprayed (previous owner reversed into something even though the car has reverse sensors!!!) but I would probably end up having the whole car sprayed and spend £1000. Advice???

When buying a PC you need to bear in mind that there are additional costs like a 110v transformer, plug, extension cable etc. Still, worth it in the long run (I hope anyway, as I got one the other week and seem to be spending more and more money on stuff to go with it). Anyway, how deep is the scratch, does it go down to the base coat?

So, how deep is the scratch? Does your fingernail catch it? Polished Bliss have an excelent guide to scratch removal that includes doing it bby hand - might be worth a look on their site? www.polishedbliss.co.u. Black Magic is very hard paint though, difficult to get scratches out (so I've found).

| Most of the scratches do catch with a finger nail so not overly optimistic of repairing them. I may just leave it and have the whole car done proffesionally when I get a few more stone chips appearing

| Scratch X and if that isn't working I guess you could try brasso wadding as it is supposed to work well. Can't hurt if you would get it professionally resprayed anyway to give it a go.

| If your fingernail catches then you probably wont be able to repair it. You could try and mask it more though by polishing it down a bit - Porter Cable with a 4" pad and some Poorboys SSR2.5 or even 3 would prolly do it. Then use a filler wax or something similar to Meguiars NXT, don't know how effective it'll be though and could well result in a respray job anyway. If you're in the South East I'd be willing to give it a shot with my PC on the understanding that if I knacker your paint job you don't sue or hurt me ![]()
