Default Swirly Paint

Hi Guys,

My Fabia is 6 years old and the paint and body work is in perfect condition......Apart from the Fact that over a year of automatic car washes have made it really swirly, and it's clearly visible in the sunny weather we have been having.

is there anything that will permanantley remove all of the swirls? I have a Rare Hot Chilli Fabia, a colour only avaliable for about 6 months after launch, and it's my cars best feature. It was a carry over from the Felicia

Can anyone reccomend anything or are the swirls here to stay?

A good machine polish with the correct compound should sort it, have a word with a local bodyshop, shouldnt cost much.

Professional polish (machine) and never taking it to an automatic car wash again would be your only way I think.

Edit: damn, beaten.

Its either elbow grease (and a considerable amount of it!) or get yourself a PC. Several threads on here about it, but quite honestly there is no better machine for doing what you want coupled with a decent polish Meguires Step 2 Paint Cleaner from Halfords would do the job just nicely

Whereabouts are you?

And a PC (Porter Cable) machine will certainly go most of the way to sorting the swirl problem out. As long as they aren't mega deep swirls that are coming close to going through the clear coat of the paint (not likely really) it'll come up well.

Contrary to my profile, I am In Luton, Not the Satan Pit. Though I see how they could be interpreted as the same thing. I won't be using mechanical car washes again, thats for sure. I never really thought they were that damaging until now when the sun shines on it

Yeah, nice colour - like that. And you're right, it is rare - not seen one that colour before. That'll come up really well with a couple of layers of polish via a PC, an application of sealant and finally some wax

Will cost you around £200 all-in to import a PC and get the products you need. May seem a lot but it would easily cost you that to get it sorted professionally I reckon, plus you've then got the kit to do it again. And then there's the satisfaction that it's all your own work when you finish

I know a good local(ish) to you bodyshop who would sort it out. For less than £200 id say aswell. PM me if you want a number, hes the chap who sprayed my pick up so knows his onions.

If you didn't want to spend on a PC, you can always try and mask the swirls by using a Glaze product before using a sealant.

These glazes have filling properties that can smooth over the swirls so you can't see them.

One such product is Meguiars NXT. You may need a few coats before you see the desired effect.

The downside is that within time, the swirls will come back and you need to re-fill it.

Have a look at this post in Detailing World
