Wheel sealant/wax

Hey,

I'm going to try and give my new wheels a good once over with some sealant/wax to keep them healthy considering how the old ones are looking after 4 years without much care.

At the moment they're off the car with no tyres so I'm thinking it's an ideal opportunity. However...

Will it be a problem when it comes to balancing new tyres? My place uses the 'sticky' weights, and I'm not sure if super-cleaning the wheels, then applying 3-4 coats of sealant will then be an issue with the sticking? Would it be better to get the tyres on and balanced and then do the sealant?

Re: Wheel sealant/wax

I would recommend CG Jetseal 109 for sealing wheels as I did this with mine before I put my tyres on not so long ago............

Re: Wheel sealant/wax

I'd honestly recommend Collinite 476S on alloy wheels, seems vastly more durable than the PB Wheel Sealant I've normally recommended.

PB Wheel Sealant IMHO isn't that great but you have to try these things......

Re: Wheel sealant/wax

I agree. I got some PD sealant after reading about it on here and wasn't impressed

I just use collinite 915 at the moment, might give the Jetseal a go.

I've already got some PB sealant so I'll probably use that up for now. So many choices

Re: Wheel sealant/wax

Another fan of 476 on wheels here. And other who wasn't overly impressed with PB Wheel Sealant.

I've heard good things about Jetseal 109 as well, but as I already had Collinite sitting here, thought I'd give it a go. Have done two sets of wheels with it now and I'm impressed. Nice wheel water beading too, which is a bonus

Think I'll be taking klasse AIO then Colli 476 layer over it and see how that holds up when I get some time.

Yeah, finish with the Jetseal is awesome. Wheels look like mirror finish and water beads off them really well. Would recommend to anyone

Re: Wheel sealant/wax

Would it work to clean up the wheel, apply some Jetseal coats, and then a few coats of wax over the top? Or would you do the wax then the Jetseal? Just thinking if I got some of the Jetseal and then used up the PB sealant as well. Or would it hinder the Jetseal/make no difference?

(TBH I'm not too bothered about how clean and shiny the wheels 'look'. It's more to do with keeping them safe from the brake dust and making them slightly easier to clean. So layering products to get the best wet look and all that kinda stuff, that's beyond me, isn't really an issue. It's 100% durability I'm after.)

Jetseal is applied in two coats to complete the 'seal' and once you have those two coats on you really don't need anything else as it's sooooooooo good!!

Autoglym Super Resin Polish?

Has fine abrasive as well as fillers. Might hide/mask small imperfections.

But the wax on top wouldn't have any negative effect? You know, cos I have half a tub sitting there and only own one car with wheels.

Would just be the PB wheel stuff I have already. If it's gonna balls it up then I'll just chuck the pot or let someone I know take it off my hands.
