Red / Green envelopes on the left of forum????

Just wondered what the trick is with the red and green envelopes along the left edge of the forums???? Some posts have a red envelope and others a green one..... Doesn't seem to relate to read or unread or whether i have posted in that post or not.

Any ideas???

I think anything above 10 post is classed as red hot, hot topic showing a red envelope. Just from observation.

Hover over them with your mouse and you will get the idea. They mean stuff like new posts, you've posted, hot topic (lots of new posts) etc. The old skin had them too, but different icons.
