I'm not sure, Skoda use VW mills anyway so to report it as adopted suggests bought in engines from another marque, it's happened before and still does

2.5 TD Ford = Peugeot
1.9 CDTi VX = Joint with Fiat
3.0 CDTi VX = Isuzu
1.8 TD Ford = Peugeot

The Ford ones are old ones found in Granada and early Mondeo models

I've come across customer engines before - and the obvious example is above, with many Vauxhall CDTi engines being Isuzu as they're both GM companies.

That said, I've never seen VAG use customer engines before... although of course Porsche own a majority share in the VW group...

Flat four tdi, anyone?

The Americans just don't do small diesels - they have no interest in minimising pollution or hydrocarbon usage.

Ford and GM, in order to remain competitive have bought European technology from PSA and Fiat respectively, with a few GM badged units being sourced from Isuzu. Ford in particular can't bring themselves to pay the Bosch price for a decent fuel system - hence Delphi. This was no doubt a carrot in the deal with PSA - sell us engines and we'll sell you cheap fuel systems.

As some users of Delphi fuel systems have found, "cheap" is of more benefit to the manufacturer than to the user.

VAG supply their own engines - I bought one partly to get a Bosch fuel system (as long as it's not an electronic VE).

Vauxhall's diesels are as follows:

1.3CDTi - Fiat JTD
1.7CDTi - Isuzu
1.9CDTi - Fiat/Alfa JTDm
2.0CDTi - GM
3.0CDTi - Isuzu

The Isuzu units are going end of life, should be phased out when the current cars go end of life (Astra and Vectra). The 1.9 is going soon too, replaced by the GM 2.0CDTi.
