Hardly a revolutionary idea from either manufacturer IMO. Reminds me of a Citroen XM Exec from the early 90s, that had a piece of moveable glass between the occupants and the boot. The practicality of a hatch, but without passenger inconvenience

Estates and SUV's have been doing it for years.

When they tested the Superb, they called the twin-door system gimmicky, but notice on the 'FleaMW dive series' they call it 'Amazing'!
Still, at least they gave Skoda credit for it.

Umm, well the Auto Express article mentions the Superb connection; I doubt you'll find any references to Skoda from the BMW PR machine!

Might well be, much like the bag holders in the back of the Octy 2 that Mercedes used and pay Skoda a few to copy the idea.

"Thanks to the patented construction of TwinDoor the new Škoda Superb combines the practical advantages of a liftback with the elegance of a sedan. An individual approach to design has made the new Superb a fascinating vehicle."

"Do you think that the Twindoor system will be used by other brands in the group, or will we even see it on some competitors’ cars?
No, we really don’t think so, on the contrary. The Twindoor system should be a unique sales benefit for the new Superb, so we don’t want the unique system to be used on other group models or even on competing brands."

hmm seems so baad bmw!!

Do Skoda want BMW to pay them a good amount of money to use the system or for BMW to design their own variant?

If BMW offer the money I would think Skoda would take it as it's easy money for every BMW sold and no matter how much they want it to be the case a superb is never going to be a competitor to the 5 series inside the life of the new models.
