DVLA Online Tax Renewal

Just bracing myself to renew the road fund for my superb elegance 2.8V which comes up again at the end of the month

The DVLA paperwork came through this morning and some inconsistency noted

1. covering letter from Customer Services Director says you can pay by direct debit or credit card online.

2. enclosed V11 Application renewal form says only direct debit can be used

3. looked at supplied website adress. You can use both, it says But it's only at this stage you discover that there is an extra charge of £2.50 if you use your credit card

4. as far as I can see, there's not the usual reference to any budget changes being applied.

Doubt if I will get away with the quoted £165. Never mind, it will all go to filling the potholes/mine shafts which pepper our roads. Won't it??

And you won't have to stand behind someone who stinks of pi55 at the post office.

Did mine on-line, nice and easy and the disc comes through in a non-descript envelope too.

I don't think I would return to the post office now to mess about with it, thats if you can find a post office that can do car tax.

The only exception to this would be if you have just changed registration etc, apparently that can cause a bit of grief IIRC from another thread.

I was very pleased with the quick turnaround & lack of queue-attendance, but the best thing was that the site knew the car was insured (I'm guessing it would also know it was MOTed if that had applied) so I did not have to do the yearly 'lost my paperwork can I have a new certificate issued please' thing LOL

did mine online very good... only thing was my registration hadn't gone through fully at time so it ended up being sent to previous owners whom i contacted and they then sent it onto me.

Re: DVLA Online Tax Renewal

I just purchased tax disc on line and arrived about 3 days later. Would use again as it's less hassle than having to get out all your documents and queue for the miserable barstewards down at the GPO.

Bit harsh but probably fair, LOL!!

You can pretty much be assured that if you re-new your Tax Disc in the Post Office then it's Pension Collection day and you will be in there for hours!!

I shall look forward to renewing mine on line then in September.

The web page says re online renewal 'you must not have recently changed your name and/or address, changed your insurance company or any details of your vehicle'. You also must have a computerised MOT certificate(if relevant).

Thanks to all for their comments. I guess the Post Office is going to miss my custom.
