Have Skoda given up with the present Superb?

I've just had a brochure "Winter warmers" from my supplying Skoda dealer. It's a pretty amateurish job - on page 1 the New Fabia is advertised as having "Halogen Headlights". Find me a current car which doesn't - unless it has gas discharge lamps.

There's no mention at all of the Superb - I think they must have just lost the plot with this model. I'd like to know what percentage of UK sales by number the Superb represents.

I've noticed that too - the bumph I get through always has the Fabia, Octavia and Roomster, but no Superb

probably meant to say halogen lights with DE module

i dont think Skoda would be happy to find out they arent including the superb in their sales stuff, they have just given out new 48 demostrator superbs to boost interest int he car. it may be due for replacement, but the current superb is still available

Re: Have Skoda given up with the present Superb?

I think the Tudor has been a concept car for a few years now and I'm not sure there's really a place for it in the Skoda portfolio as it would be stepping on the toes of the hotter Audi's and VW's.....

Re: Have Skoda given up with the present Superb?

Superb is on the run out, it's never been a mass volume car anyway, dealers struggle to sell them new "I don't think this will be the case next year" at this time it's a case of why plug a car that is effectively technically ten years old now and in a bracket where unless like me you need a large car for work the average Joe doesn't want because he's been influenced that his life status will go up if he purchases one of the new breed pauper Range Rover types like the Quasqai, and imo this type of vehicle is going to be a real curse on the road, all the Pug 307 gang will want one and we all knows how they drive in a small car, give them something larger and you can imagine the damage they will do to pedestrians and parked cars.

Skoda's marketing refers to the Halogen Lamps on the Fabia but as stated it means the fact that the lamps now use a DE Module and not a FF (Free-Form) Relfector to distribute the light pattern on the road.

The DE module provides a sharper cut off, improved light spread and a compact package within the lamp to meet the legal requirements of light output.

The DE module is the 'bulls eye' glass dome in the centre of the lamp, seen in the Superb headlamps, as opposed to a FF Reflector where you can usually see the bulb and bulbshield similar to the Octavia MK1 or Fabia MK1....

Re: Have Skoda given up with the present Superb?

Thanks for the explanation - there's no reference to a "DE Module" on the Skoda brochure. I don't think the marketing dept which produced this leaflet would know a DE module if it hit them.

I find the headlamps on my Superb to be very indifferent despite their complex construction. The chromatic abberation present on the dip cutoff line due to the use of a non compound lens is annoying - I fail to see any advantage in this lamp design over the conventional reflector. My old SAAB had better lights - it used a conventional refector and an H4 lamp.

We (Hella) Designed and Manufactured the lamp and it is more than likely we Designed and Manufactured the Saab Headlamp used to find better.....apologies if the cut off is not as crisp but I can not compare as I have not driven with the Halogen units on the Superb or the Saab......

Xenon is a must and I am more than happy with them on my Superb....

Re: Have Skoda given up with the present Superb?

I'm sure the build standard will be excellent. If it's based on the B6 Passat as presumably it must be, I would expect Skoda to eliminate the rattles which still plague the VW version.

I hope they haven't fitted that damn silly electric handbrake. Imagine a hill start with 1500kg of trailer behind. A solution to a problem we don't have.

I would think they will follow suit with the electric handbrake and auto hold control.

I'd have thought so. Can't imagine a scenario where that would be a problem, except maybe when wanting to chuck it around an icy car park
