Cool Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

Hi, I have spent hours trawling the net for help and then I saw the light, briskoda it's great.

I recently purchased a second hand Superb, after one week the brake light bulb warning light on dash lights up and beeps yet the bulbs are fine?

And my main problem is the interior lights have stopped working, the map lights, door lights, glove box e.t.c ??? they are turned on and all the fuses are ok any ideas on what to look for, don't want to pay dealer prices.

Thankyou in advance for any help you can give.

Hope my post's ok, i'm a newbie!

Phil

Re: Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

I would take a guess that despite the interior lights not working the rear map lights in the handles do?

I would think that you have a water leak. It has run under the capets and got into the n/s/r footwell. There is a link in the wiring loom there, something called a 'node' joint. A group of wires crimped together and heat shrunk. The water will have rotted out this connection stopping the lights working.

You need to source and fix the water leak and repair the joint.

The carpet needs to come up, need to remove the sill trims etc .

Will probably need most of the interior removing to dry out if its leaked that bad though.

Yes usually, but can also be a poorly fitted or blocked AC drain.

Re: Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

just had this done on mine.
1) new seal around pollen filter to stop leak - clear out crap in channels whilst at this, and also check drainage holes in rear doors
2) new carpet as old one soggy and might go mouldy - i wasn't too bothered, but dealer suggested it under warranty
3) new convenience unit - controls electronics, located under passenger front seat - soaked and knackered
4) fix to node joint as new conveneince unit didn't sort interior light problem
5) recode all spare keys to new convenience unit - don't forget the last step!

suspect if you're not covered under warranty, lifting the carpet and checking for dodgy contacts would sort it...

Is the pollen filter supposed to have a seal on it?, mine just sits in its tray.

Re: Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

Not the filter itself, the water gets in between the plastic housing and the body.

More so when leaves etc block the drain of the plenum area and water collects there.

If you open the bonnet and pull forward the rubber seal at the rear of the engine bay between the engine and battery tray, the plastic panel (over the brake fluid reservoir and battery) pull this forward and up towards you. Then the pollen filter is on the right hand side at the base of the passenger side of the windscreen.

Re: Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

Hi, still have problem, had the pollen filter casing sorted as was cracked or something, however had all carpets up and can't find which wire I'm looking for?

Followed the wires down to a junction box in front of passenger door, and then ???

And yeh cracked the side plastic running at the bottom of the front passenger seat belt oops.

Does anyone know which wires I am looing for?

Cheers

Re: Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

The wiring runs along the passenger side to the rear of the car, follow the loom back to the rear foot well. Find a group of red wires joined together.

Re: Hi, I'm new HELP interior lights fault

I have just finally got around to fixing the wires, I found 4 wires in a node joint corroded, so cut back and re-connected, but the water is back! I have just had my car serviced and they say the drains were cleaned, my warranty does not include water ingress claims and they want £50 an hour just to look at it, I have 50 pence!

So to sum up, I have no idea where the water is coming from, and my lights still don't work.

Is this likely to be the convenience unit?
Is there any serviceable bits for the lights that won't affect the programming?

Thanks again to all

Phil
