| Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? Depends on a great many things. Serviced and maintained correctly 300k shouldnt be an issue. |

| Briskodian | Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? If you maintain it properly (don't let it near a dealer and intelligently adapt the servicing schedule to your actual conditions of use) and use fully synth oil to 507.00 you should see 200k miles from it. The suspension won't last that long and it might need a DMF. German electronics are rubbish, so I wouldn't expect the toys to be working too well at the end of it either. Good engine, good body - that's why I bought mine. rotodiesel. |

| Briskodian | Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? Diesel engines will do well over 200K, no reason why the Superb would be any different. A good indicator is that they are often used as taxi's, along with the Octavia. My last two diesel cars did 193K and 135K with no engine trouble. |

| Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? My PD130 2003/03 (fabia vRS) ticked past 99k today, at least 60k of which have been remapped with no engine problems so far. |

| Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? The engine is practically indestructable, you may have issues with some ancillary parts (eg. turbo) but the block and the main parts should last at least 300K.

| Briskodian | Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? You will find that the VAG bean counters have been at work since your 12 year old Avant was built. A current Superb, even in basic form has many more electronic systems (climatronic, remote locking, electronic instrument displays, electric locks etc) than your old car has. This combination of cheap bits, stupid design (CCM on the floor) and complexity makes for a rocky reliability ride. The B5.5 Passat is a real can of worms in this respect. The Superb is the same car. rotodiesel. |

Climatronic, remote locking, electronic instrument display, infact Id hazard a guess you'll be hard pressed to find a function mine doesn't have that the superb does ? I get the feeling you may have been stung before with a friday afternoon car. I stick with VAG because of the rock solid electrics.

| Briskodian | Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? I'm glad you've been lucky. I have just spent an afternoon this week re-working a Passat instrument cluster which was non-functional. It was riddled with broken (not dry) soldered joints indicating a design which is prone to solder fatigue. Resoldering about 25 broken joints has restored operation. It's not too difficult to avoid this problem on electronic assemblies mounted inside the car - breakers yards are full of working radios. The VAG clusters fail because of gross inattention to detail and poor materials (I wonder if they ever did thermal cycling tests prior to production). The Japanese don't get this sort of thing wrong. The problem is, the Japanese don't make very good diesel engines either - although this will change... rotodiesel. |

| Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? Out of interest roto.... what do you do for a living ? Are you a VAG mechanic ? Just wondered as you have quite a knowledge on VAG diesels.

| Briskodian | Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? I used to operate an engine testing facility for a large UK user of engines of all types. Honda 2.2 could well be a good choice. It's still a bit "new" - it takes about 5 years in production without major problems for an engine to be any good in my book. I'd presently be concerned about the reliability of the fuel system on this engine - time will tell. The unit injectors on the VAG PD have proved to be very reliable - pity about the wiring loom to it using cheap connectors but at least that's fairly easy to fix. rotodiesel. |

| Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? rotodiesel does know a lot about these Superb's but all the problems that he comments on I haven't had hardly any of them on mine so I guess I have been lucky...... As for your Avant Auron.............great car and has all the toys working with it...........you done that interior yet?

| Re: How many miles from a 1.9 PD 130? Yup interior is done. Giving it a going over tomorrow at my parents. Gonna clean the throttle body, ISV, replace the thermostat, coolent, and breather pipes. Once all that is done, I'm going to valet it and go on a photo shoot. Time it was shown off a bit.
