| I collect my Superb on the 1st Feb... Hi there, Further to my first post in "Introductions" and all the useful replies, I took the car for another test drive and then crawled over it to spot any faults. The gearbox was fine from cold, the boot lid was a bit stiff and there was a rattle at about 1500rpm - nothing major but they said they would check it out. They're going to sort the boot lid also. We could not find the "key" for the locking wheelnuts, the detachable tow ball wouldn't detach and there is an odd looking red cable running from by the battery to the sensors/relays (?) at the front right top of the engine. All items to be checked out and fixed before I collect it! Just need to get the insurance transferred and the plates swapped etc. then the 2003 Superb 1.9 Elegance is all mine! (Its got 12month warranty left, so I'll probably find some other bits and pieces in the first few weeks!) I've had a quick search on the forums, but I didn't find any conclusive answers - if I've missed them sorry - but I have a few questions.. 1) Window tinting - I only live about 40mins from the guy in Leicester offering the special deal on window tinting - but I couldn't get to grips with what is legal an not. What is the level of tint on the car when manufacturer? How much can I add to that to remain legal 2) Car Phone kit - how do I remove the stereo to get to the connections for speakers etc (its a Parrot BT kit I'm moving from the Omega) - does the Elegance have a built in car phone aerial? 3) I've seen a photos in the Gallery of alternative front Grilles - where is the best place to start looking? finally... 4) Can anyone recommend any sensible priced in car dvd systems - ideally one that can be easily removed, but used to place the tweenies, postman pat, thomas the thank etc. etc. Many thanks for all your advice to so far - can't wait until Feb 1st! Cheers, Matthew |

| Ragio comes out in a jiffy with the correct keys As for the DVD player, how about one of those removeable jobbies that go on the back of a front seat..dirt cheap at Dixons etc, if its just for kids entertainment that is.

1) Don't know the full legal side about tinting, but as a general rule DON'T tint the 2 front side windows at all, or at the very most if you must, a very light tint. The plod don't like it..I know someone who was stopped and was told to de-tint them. Stands to reason IMO, apart from the safety side of things, it looks as though you're trying to hide something. Think my back tints are 18%...not too dark, not too light...just right. Similar to what you see on some Galaxys and Merivas as a standard fit. 4) Shop around and you'll find a dvd/screen that simply straps over the front headrests. Far better than those built in/pop down out of the headlining jobbies. Finish using it, put it away out of sight from prying thieving eyes. Last edited by C.J.; 17-01-2005 at 01:04. | Matt I fitted the parrot kit in my superb took about 1hr. I couldn't find the car phone aerial lead although it is supposed to have one, the aerial certainly is gsm/fm. I would also recommend flashing the parrot box for the latest software if you have the chance , It really struggles if you try a really new phone - a bit hit and miss . Otherwise you,ve got a fantastic car . Sounds like the normal boot lid and air duct problems which are easily fixable. I would ask the dealer to check the electrics on the towbar as well . mine is a detachable type and forever the scoket is a problem its so low down. morgan

| Cheers to that Morgan - which Parrot kit have you got? How do I remove the stereo from the dash (do I need to?) and where did you take you power supply from? Out of interest, where have you positioned the microphone? Thanks for all the help - got to be one of the best forums I visit! Matt |

| Matt the power suppply for the parrott comes as part of the loom you only need to plug it all together and connect the radio mute. Mine is a CK3000 ( the basic one) . I have put the mic on the steering coloumn on a velcro pad - I found for some strange reason that when on the phone I tended to talk to the mic so this was a bit tricky if mounted in the proper skoda place by the rear view mirror. It works really well on the steering coloumn as you can't help but look where youre going. I will be interested to hear if you find the gsm aerial.

| Briskodian | My aerial is a triplex radio/gps/mobile it looks different from the normal aerial having a much larger base. It is the one they fit for factory fit sat nav. My aerial was retro fitted, was a big job that meant lowering the roof lining. Prior to that aerial it had a internal mobile aerial by the rear view mirror stuck on the windscreen with the cable under the trim surround John Last edited by stopan1j; 26-01-2005 at 23:26. |

| I am now the very proud owner of a 2yr old Skoda Superb 1.9tdi Elegance. Definitely very proud. Everyone thinks it is brand new - there isn't a scratch on it an it now has private plates. The best bits have to be the ecconomy, the comfort, the handling (better than my 2001 2.2 Omega) and the looks you get from people in car parks or traffic - they just can't believe its a Skoda. The worst bit so far are the wiper blades. The first time it rained since I collected it was Saturday lunchtime. I thought I'd pop to Halfords and pick up a set. No such luck - 3 branches all out of stock. My local car spares place says that they are a dealer only item! Has anyone managed to source them? The wipers were sooo bad I think it would be classed as not road legal! Will get the sat nav and parrot kit fitted over the next few days and see what else I fancy! Cheers for all the help from the forum members, Matt |

| Matt Just had mine replaced at service FYI Dealer price is 1 x Ł9.23 & 1 x Ł11.74 ( + VAT) don't know what Halfords charge but might not be worth the difference. Glad you're pleased with the car , you appreciatte the little legs not being able to kick the drivers seat . What Colour is it? morgan

| Hi Morgan, Halfords, if they have any in stock, are Ł24 a pair for Bosch blades and 2.99 to fit them, so its about the same. I guess they aren't too bad to fit? The car is metalic beige, but it looks more like a gold colour to me. The little legs can't reach the seat yet - he's only 13 weeks old! Mines only 1/2 leather, no on board sat nav (PocketPC and TomTom) still does 50mpg and is better at corners than my previous car! Cheers, Matt |

| The wiper blades just sit on a pivot post. Move the arm away from the windscreen, then pivot the blade about 90 degrees, then you can just slide the blade of its pivot post. Dead easy, but note which hole on the blade the old ones used as both blades appear the same, just have 2 pivot holes in each to facilitate different sides of the windsceen.
