Idle squeak plus engine stutter problem

Hi all

I have an 04 1.9TDI PD100 Superb which is just about on 120k. Its used as a private hire vehicle.

its been regularly serviced (variable) and has the usual 0.5-1ltr oil topups.

A few months back noticed a squeek whilst idleing and stationary and someone suggested a sticking alternator pulley. The squeek is permanent now but not any worse if you know what I mean :/

The latest development is I was getting the odd engine stutter like pinking on the old petrol engines generally as moving up through the gears. I spoke to my service guy who said it was prob due to the amount of water/moisture in the air and on the roads 9jan-feb) which maybe affecting the electrics? not knowing much about cars it did seem better on dry days :-/

but...in the last couple of weeks it is more constant and can do it 4-5 times on a 2 mile stretch of road. There are no warning lights in the panel and the rev counter remains steady but its asif the fuel is not all getting through fast enough or something.

I am worried now that it may be cam belt related which may lead to a break. The belt was changed at 60k which was about 2 years ago so judging by time and mileage maybe it needs doing again?

Any advice appreciated.

thanks

Re: Idle squeak plus engine stutter problem

The PD engines have a standard fault which crops up at about this mileage. The wiring loom to the unit injectors is inside the cylinder head and becomes intermittent causing a misfire.

Replacement is cheap and easy (if you get an independent to do it) but get the fault codes read first - this problem nearly always leaves a code.

rotodiesel.

Re: Idle squeak plus engine stutter problem

The squeal is normally the tensioner or alt pulley's, hit them with some WD40 or you could have one shear off eventually.

Seems a reg fault on the car tbh.

Re: Idle squeak plus engine stutter problem

Had the car checked and there were no faults found.

It was suggested I add some injector cleaner see if that helps and bingo so far no stuttering! hmm why did noone tell me this sooner, maybe its in the user manual? :-/

Re: Idle squeak plus engine stutter problem

the squeek will be the alternator, mine is the same, had one changed when the car was under warranty but it didnt take long before the new one started, its been squeeking for 4 years and 100,000 miles now so dont worry about it

Also might be worth doing the "Cage" mod also>If you use the search on here then you will find out how to do it and its well worth it.

Re: Idle squeak plus engine stutter problem

update2

Was still getting the mis-firing until last week when the coil light came on again with loss of power, only limphome mode. called RAC via SkodaAssist and diagnosed throttle sensor (accelerator pedal) again. This is my fourth pedal replacement and thought the mis-firing may have been a gradual breakdown in the sensor but no... after a 2 days the EPC light came on so took back to the garage and a new fault code (dont know why it didnt show up before?) the code is P0201 Cyl No1 Injector circuit fault in electrical circuit 16585

Maybe its the loom as suggested by rotodiesel?

The guy at the garage also suggested maybe some chaffing in the loom somewhere but I wouldnt know whaere to start looking as they want £75+ vat per hr :/ and its not in warranty!

Any1 had similar chaffing/intermittent wiring problems?
