Info needed

Hi all, have a few questions about the Superb and hope some of ye might be able to help me out

(1) Car came fitted with the Rhapsody stereo upgrade (nice bonus for me as was not ordered ). Driving by day the stereo "looks" like it has backlighting on it and is quite clear to see the display, but infact their is no lighting on the unit till the lights are turned on, so if and when l am sitting in the car at night, listining to the stereo but with the main lights turned off, l cannot see anything , is this normal on this stereo cant find anything about it in the booklet.

(2) The information on the maxi-dot display is in Chec (sp) and not in english , again nothing in the owners book, is this something l should be able to change or does it need to be plugged into VAG diag's

(3) As everything here in lreland is now Kmh and Lts/100km, not mls and mpg, am l useing the right conversions, Km in2 mls = -/- 8 an x 5 and Lts in2 gals = -/- number of Lts by 4.546 IF these are correct, then l have got an avg of 42mpg over the last 1,004 mls, a mix of driving but with a good bit of open road work, and while this is better than was getting in my Octy vRS, l do find it a little bit less than was hoping for If l am wrong can someone please convert
1,606.5 km and 108.91 lts for me

Cheers in advance

Bryan

well I can't help with the Stereo, but the maxidot should be easy to do.

If it's the same as the octavia 2 version.
1. press and hold one of the right stalk rocker switches until you get the menu up.
2. Go down to NASTVENI and prell the reset/OK button.
3. Go down to JAZYK and press the reset/ok button
4. Select english and press rest/OK.

then everything should be understandable and you should then be able to choose MPG and whatnot.

If not a vagcom/Skoda dealer should be able to do it in 5 mins. the vagcom bit in the help/FAQ section here shows how to change.

The stereo may have it in the menu about the back light. The manual should be able to tell you.

1,606.5 km (1.6 km per mile)= 1000 miles (roughly)
108.91 lts (4.55 litres in a Gal)= 24 gallons (roughly)

1000/24 = 41.6 MPG

well it's a big car, I'm getting around the same with a 2.0lTDI Octavia and got around that in a Fabia vRS so it's probably around the real world figure you get for mixed driving/speed

There's about 20ltrs to the gallon and 1.6km in a mile. So you're getting about 300km to the gallon. 300/1.6 is 187.5 mpg?

That doesn't sound right lol - anyone see where I've gone wrong?

Yeah, there's only 4.546 litres in a gallon.

I knew that

So, roughly, 1.5 gallons gets you 100km, so 1 gallon will get you 66km. 66km is 41ish miles.

So 41mpg ... much more believable

Chris

With my calculations, whatever you want it to be From the site, it seems to range from low 30's up to 60ish mpg so I guess driving style plays a big part

If the engine is brand new, it will still be very tight. My Fabia vRS produced low 40's mpg for the first few tanks, but after 4000 miles the figure was much more respectable - so expect an improvement.

None of the VAG stereos have backlighting unless the headlights are switched on. Hope this helps.

I make it 42.8mpg which seems a bit low but believable. Regards, Lewis

The MPH > KPH is quite easy to do. Its a simple recode of the dash and all figures will change over.

Language is also a simple code up.

Got the language sorted by the dealer , but he says my car, all cars sold in lreland from 2005 on, are KMP "only", not just the speedo's but the codes also

That is so stupid, so sitting in the car at night, just chatting to friends or whatever , you need to turn on the light to be able to change the volume or station . How long they been setting the head units up like that then

Isn't there something about Euro IV compliant engines where they have to burn off the exhaust soot at a certain temperature. The soot gathers in the exhaust system and eventually reduces fuel economy by choking the engine. The only way to ensure it is burned off is by giving the car some welly to ensure a high enough exhaust temperature is acheived! Sounds daft but it seems you have to drive harder sometimes to maintain fuel economy.
