Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

Just thought I would show you my 'Summer' wheels that I purchased last night from a fellow forum member over on UK-MKIV's.net.

They are ASA AR1's with a Polished Lip - 19", 8.5J on the front and 9.5J on the rears with an ET35:

So what do you think? Honest opinions, I know that they may not be everyone's taste but I am very much looking forward to putting these on the car in the summer when I have some rubber on them. May need to adjust the suspension set up but I am excited nevertheless.

I also bought these:

I will putting these 15mm spacers on this weekend so more pictures to follow. The plan is to have the rears spaced out as much as possible (within the legal limits of course) and then just ride on the wheels during the summer months for the show season. I will take my current Solid's off and send them away to refurbished for the winter.

All comments welcome whether good or bad.

I have never owned a new set of alloys before, I don't even know how or what I sound use to clean a polished lip alloy!!

Plenty of time to do some research until I can afford the rubber and also until the better weather arrives!!

Thanks for your comments guys!!

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

Look good. Ordered my 19" 's yesterday and can't wait. Looking forward to the pics of the spacers on. was thinking of getting spacers on mine to help fill out the arches. How much were the spacers and I assume you needed new bolts/locks to suit the extra 15mm?? I was thinking of 10mm spacers to go with my 235/35/19 tyres, but not sure if I'll need new bolts aswell??

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

I can't understand why you would want wider wheels and widen the track at the back on a FWD? It is not the most sensible thing you can do, but i do know of Fabia drivers doing this

The wheels themselves look good though

The spacers I bought brand new from a GB on UK-MKIV's that has just finished, all in with bolts was £55!! Bargain!! The spacers that I have bought are 15mm and yes I need to purchase some longer locking wheels bolts but I will be sourcing those this weekend from Halfords of all places, LOL!!

If you want to fit 10mm wheel spacers then you will need longer wheel bolts, you can get away with 5mm wheels spacers with the standard bolts but not 10mm. If you want I can put you in contact with the guy that sold them to me?

Also what are your 19's?

Hey mate, we are all different and I am going for the Euro look. Have you ever been to any shows and seen cars with spacers on the back with wide wheels?

Why is it not sensible thing to do?

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

I can't wait to see these on the car. Will you be putting the spacers on with the solids or waiting till summer to do the whole thing? If you are sticking those spacers on with the solids could you post some pics as I might be very tempted to do the same thing, there is just something that makes the Superb look too narrow, particularly when viewed from the front, and the spacers might just do the trick.

I will be putting the spacers on this Saturday so I will post up pics no problem. I feel the same way as you mate, the car looks too narrow with the wheels on and it just needs to sit out a bit. I will let you see the results very soon and like I said if you want some then contact me and I can point you in the right direction. I may well get some more for the front of the car, LOL!!

When you say RS8 you mean A8 as there is not such thing as RS8 IIRC?

The 19's will for sure make a big difference but do you intend to lower it? When I fitted my 18's to my Bora before I lowered it, it looked like a tractor!! You have to lower it with big wheels, just looks sooooo much better IMO.

The dilemma I have now is what tyre size to get? You have got 235/35/R19 but I am thinking of stretching the tyre and getting a smaller width as possible to make the rim look bigger, heading down to a tyre place tonight just to get some prices.

So when you putting your wheels on?

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

They are A8 alloys but they are called RS8 at alot of shops. Will be getting some coilovers fitted as I think that it will look odd with the big wheels. I've had 235/35/19 fitted as that was part of the package, but I did look at other sizes too. From what I can remember, 225/40 and 245/30 were alot dearer than the 235/35 size. Should have them fitted on monday and then then coilovers on by the following week.

Well I have just been to see a man about some rubber and he has offered me a good price fitted for four tyres so maybe I will get them done sooner rather than later? We will see?

So wheels on Monday then, excellent, pic time for you then mate!!

What coilovers you going to go with? Those V-Maxx ones?

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

You'll have them on in a week I bet. 19" alloys in the garage until the summer is too long to wait.

Not sure on the coilovers I going to choose. Don't really know that much about coilovers as all my previous cars have had only lowered springs. Was thinking of only getting some £100 g-max lowering springs, but I have a little more money than I thought and £320 for the v-maxx seemed a good buy. I will have to do a little research on v-maxx before I commit.

How easy is it to adjust ride height with coilovers?? Can you do it when already fitted, or do you need to take them off the car to adjust??

Yeah maybe your right mate, we will see!! Funny thing is that the tyres are going to cost me as much as the wheels, LOL!!

I would be weary of dropping such a heavy car just on springs as the ride will be so bumpy!! Those V-Maxx coliovers seem like a good buy mate if your on a budget IMO!!

It's not the eaiest I mean you have to jack my car up because the front is so low to access the coilover but it's a luxury that I am going to need when I put these bigger rims on, you basically get a slightly weird spanner to move the adjuster ring up or down the coilover and it can be done when fitted to the car.

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

Got my package for £799. I guess the tyres will be pants, but I'll probably upgrade in the summer. My neighbour is a tyre fitter and can do good deals for cash.

Almost certain that I'll get those v-maxx coilovers, but not sure how directline will feel about them. Wasn't going to tell them about the alloys, but may just have the wheels and coilovers done and change policy back to adrian flux.

For me I only intend to use these wheels for the summer/show season so not going to throw lots of money at them for decent rubber.

I know what you mean about the insurance, it's a nightmate but hey, better to be safe than sorry!!

Re: Just Picked Up My New Wheels!!

What difference in price did your coilovers make? I pay £325 at the moment fully comp with 9yrs no-claims. Any ideas what the increase would be with 19" alloys & coilovers?
