Good report, but noticed he gives credit to Rolls-Royce for introducing the umbrella in the rear doors in their new Phantom , when in fact it was Skoda that introduced it first in the 2002 Superb!

Do you think Auto Express has a pedants corner?

Re: New Superb in Auto Express

Hmmm, I have to say, I cannot stand the modern corporate grille and lights styling of these newer Skodas. Would the 167 bhp Common Rail TDi be a nice trade up from a 55 plate 2.5 TDi Elegance I wonder? I wonder...........

Re: New Superb in Auto Express

Looks like a 2 litre 170 common rail diesel DSG would be an excellent replacement for my L & K (RIP). Anyone heard of the prices/ spec yet, I have registered my interest with Skoda GB.

This rating will now probably remain for the next few years, bl00dy typical rating by idiots who offer it up to the likes of 3 series BMW - ITS NOT THE SAME TYPE OF CAR!!!!!!! - Ride comfort is key if its going to be aiming for a comfortable cruiser, who cares if it doesn't go round corners like a fecking 3 series, not everyone drives this way & for those who do I'm sure there will be a sport/vrs version along later.... I totally agree with you. They should take the Superb for what it is - a brilliant car at a cracking price. It's not even in the same price bracket as the Beemer either, so why do they compare it to one?

I think they deliberately knock the Skodas rating down on Channel 4 as they just dont like the idea of owning up to the fact of a Skoda being a better car than any other make available for the price.
I know one thing, given the choice of a new Skoda Superb , or a new Bl00dy Manky Wheels 3 series, Id have the Superb every time

Too right. The 4 car rating was ridiculous.

Top Gear magazine only gave it 12/20 in the actual magazine rather than the website and summed up by saying it is something for your boring uncle or equivalent!

At 26, I think I'm supposed to be buying a new Scirocco or something. There again, I have got an excellent shed, I've recently gotten into gardening and my favourite TV programme is Grand Designs, so maybe the new Superb fits in better with my image.

Theres nothing wrong with that mate, you are just a little more matured for your age .

I for one will certainly be going for the Superb combi/estate when my current Octi hits 80k miles (another 2years or so) & I'm only a few years older than you.

It's when you start taking interest in The Politics Show & Country File on Sunday mornings, start reading the Daily Mail & making sure your Magonlia Grandiflora is pruned correctly when you got to start worrying.., & to think only a few years back I was an absolute bike nut out on the Pi55 every weekend... - how times change.

Not showing on brokers yet but after first couple of months expect similar discounts to old model ie up to around £4,000 off for pre-reg (top spec). As Skoda are hoping to make and sell more be interesting to see if even higher discounts are available given market segment they are aiming at ie Mondeo like discounts. I'll give it a couple of years before looking as VAG quality seems to be heading south

There is a more than £12k discount on brand new BMW 520 SE in yesterday's Telegraph! They're knocking them out for £23k! (Petrol only though, no diesels I think).

Re: New Superb in Auto Express

I'm 22 and have a Superb. I bought it because of the space inside, and the fact that I didn't want a passat, mondeo, vectra etc. The Superb is a different car, and in a couple of years when they the new one is knocking about for under 6k I'll have another
